He was basically a starter as a true freshman and was a solid contributor. What are you talking about?

Maybe we could move DRob to the secondary. He's really good at not getting open and not catching many passes. That should translate well to being a cornerback.

What does "basically a starter" mean?

I think you are confusing him with someone else.
If he started 1 game over Lorenzo Carter, it was rewarding the week of practice.
Lorenzo played 15 games and had 61 tackles.
Grant's 15 games net 9 tackles.

The next season,
He got passed in game rotations by true freshman Brenton Cox.
The season after that as an upperclassman, passed by true freshman Nolan Smith and juco Jermaine Johnson.

Where is the evidence that he was "basically a starter" and a "solid edge guy"?

Getting a sack in tbe 17 ND game is literally the only play I ever recall him making in his career, not sure why people are so concerned about having him or not. If there's one thing I'll never be worried about under Kirby it's olb

That was Davin Bellamy in the notre dame game.

Grant was so influential, people really dont remember who he was.

Like i said... at best he got pushed from 2nd string to 3rd string to not being around in 2020 and no one complained about the solid edge guy not getting more reps.

No..I'm talking about walter grant. It wasn't one of the strip sacks it was just a regular sack. You're proving just how unnoteworthy he's been ha.

Lorenzo Carter, Davin Bellamy, and Roquan all had sacks in 2017.

Deandre Walker had 2 TFLs and Walter Grant had a TFL (grant isnt credited with a QB hurry. I dont know the play you are thinking of off the top of my head).

The play at 5:20 left in the first quarter. This is the play I was thinking of and the only time I ever really remember him doing anything noteworthy

Great find. That was a great play by Grant. Did 3 things very well in the TFL.

That said... 3rd and 8 from the 15 yard line early in the game, read option was a "safe" playcall by ND not intending to convert. The "unblocked" defender making the stop should kind of also be expected.

Welp, apparently DRob is in some legal trouble over removing a parking boot.

I’m impressed he actually got it off. If he tried at football half as hard as he did this, he’d probably be a first round pick.

I wonder if removing a parking boot will change his (Robertson's) status for 2021. Might help to have 3 open slots instead of 2. We need to roll the dice on some transfer portal corners.

In an unrelated question, is Robert Beal still on the team and if so, what's his deal? Wasn't he all-world coming out of high school?

From what I understand neither Robertson nor Rochester count against the 85 scholly limit. They’re allowed back due to the covid situation and last year not counting against their eligibility.

I dont think he is with the team. Hit the transfer portal early 2020 and was convinced to come back for the season. My understanding is that he is done at UGA.

Im not sure of your definition of all world. He played in the under armor game and was a mid 4 star.
(Maybe half of the mid 4 stars do very well?)
He was surrounded by Netori Johnson and Jeremiah Holloman in our 2017 class rankings.
Id say he was better than jaden hunter, tray bishop, dmarcus hayes, trey blount, and ameer speed.

I think he is still on the team. His player profile says he saw action on special teams last year.

Smith plays with extreme intensity. He hustles and he plays the game the right way. We've seen him make big plays; he just hasn't been as consistent as coaches would like, though there's certainly every reason to believe it will start to click this fall.
If it does, you're talking about a potential All-SEC performer. Knowing Smith’s background and work ethic, don't be shocked to see this happen.
Behind him, "grinder" would be a good description of the veteran Robert Beal, who very quietly goes about his business, outside the spotlight typically reserved for some of his more well-known teammates.
Beal is a smart, durable performer, who understands what position coach and defensive coordinator Dan Lanning expects from him.

Good find.

It will be interesting to see if Dasher is right.

Edit to add:
I tried to find online where i read Beal was walking away. I couldnt find anything other than comments that it is talent holding him back.
It may have been referenced in a podcast and not online. Either way, im not the source.

Clemson is losing some key players from their defense. UGA and Clemson looks to have identical strengths and weaknesses(or should I say inexperience) on defense heading into out matchup.
CB Derion Kendrick enters the transfer portal
CB LeAnthony Williams Jr. Transferred to Marshall
LB Mike Jones Jr. Transferred to LSU
