So, once again we're going to lose our big opening game.
Duke does the one and done thing too, yet they seem to perform better than we do with freshman.
Cal cant keep using the "theyre young" excuse if this sorta thing keeps happening.
Not saying fire him but in order to do a good job he needs to win these games more often than lose them
This was a great Duke team, but there is no reason we shouldn't be as good. I know we will be better come February but still we shouldn't be this bad

Well one knock people sometime levy against Cal is that he is a tremendous recruiter but only an average game day coach. Is there something to that? I don't know, I don't follow Kentucky basketball as closely as you folks do.

Cal score card

Recruiting = above average
Pre game prep = above average
Coach = average
In game coaching = average to below average

Even going back to the game in what 2011 when it first surfaced in that game with Huggy at West Virginia, he can not seem to adjust well once the game has started.

This is pretty accurate. And with more teams willing to go for the one and done's getting the highest level 18 year old talent is proving harder.

I'm beginning to think we are on the down side. Recruiting has not been great, 2019 recruits are going elsewhere, and we have players who don't play defense.

Seems we are backsliding.

And I agree with the Cal attributes. Average to below in game coach.

And now Quade leaving. Is this imploding?

Quade’s been trying to leave since end of last season. It’s as simple as PT for him at this point and he’s not going to get it without significant growth because of Hagans, Quickley, and Maxey coming in next season.

Woo hoo we just beat two bottom dwellers and only because Bruiser showed Cal that having Allen in the game opens up the offense.

Cal has got to bench the "stars" when they aren't getting it done. Ware, Toppin, Minx and Allen play well together and Sarr sure looks better with an outside scoring threat in the game.

And now 4-9, 3-3 in conference
Lifetime contract was a big mistake

It's funny reading these because even after 1-6 you kind of thought the lights might come on for these guys but it hasn't. Cal has gotten by on talent and this year he doesn't have the best and has no clue what to do with what he has. Another coach might try something different. Like full court zone pressing, running players in and out, avoiding exposing your point guard who can't run an offense or defend one on one. Falling back into 2-3 zone, maybe not running off your guys that can actually shoot.

Give another coach this talent and we might have gotten better as the season progressed because we screened for Dontae Allen, spread out the defense, backscreened for alley oops. This is street ball going against organized, coached defenses. Our talent isn't as bad as it looks. It just isn't vastly superior and Cal is clueless. Overpaid.

Kenny Payne must be a hell of a coach.

and he is so good at persuading these kids on when they are ready for the NBA. BJ Boston needed muscle mass and the ability to hit shots. It would have been better for him to come back. So are we really a players first program?

But UK may be better off as this may mean Toppin and Allen get those minutes. So maybe Cal needs to focus on winning, not being an NBA developmental squad.

Bump. Seems losing to Duke followed by a mediocre season is the new standard.

Hope I'm wrong but looks like it's gonna be another sucky season. But hey, at least we can root for Bama in the tourney, ammirite?

Not ready to throw in the towel, yet. If Cal can get tossed the next big time game maybe Dontaie Allen can play and score 25 points.

What the hell was up? We were struggling the second half and he has a big time shot maker riding the pine while TyTy throws up crap and Wheeler is exhausted. All these shooters and he doesn't even play them.

Pitino would have played every guy on the roster and run them in and out until the whole Duke team cramped up.

Duke recruited some big but girls, Cal went out an brought in some bean poles. That keels kid killed us. Well that and out bean poles were shooting blanks.

A big part this year is because we're so deep with no outlying great players, it may take a while to find out what rotation works for us whereas Duke knows exactly who's getting the ball. We've got a long stretch before we play any team of significance so we should have the rotation and roles down by then. With this teams ability to shoot, we have a different type of ceiling than in years past which makes me excited.
