Is this is the payoff. This is the culmination with Cuonzo. This is likely the best it gets and when the best is only fairly good then the floor is too low also. On top of that, due to very poor roster management and some hilariously bad takes on the recruiting trail it’s likely a couple more years before we can even get back to this level IF we even can.

And to put a nice bow on the entire situation, after we make the tournament this year it essentially turns Cuonzo’s contract into an iron clad guarantee for the next several years. Nothing can be done, watching this all unfold and knowing what is going to happen and powerless to stop it.

My problem with CM is recruiting.

Again, this team is the least athletic in the SEC, they have to play a perfect game ro be successful, they have to play good defense, Pinson has to be able to penetrate the zone which always give Mizzou trouble to get some of the double and triple teams off Tilmon.(Pinson needs to score, also) I have learned to expect the good and bad with this team and be cool with it to a point. We will beat them in our next meeting this year.

We all complain, but this non-
athletic team is 13-4.

CM can't coach offense....doesn't know offense.....can't spell offense.

Why are you unloading the real deal of making the NIT? I thought you wanted to aim higher?

Cuonzo's teams will never be like the Virginias, Wisconsin's etc because of the talent gap. You cant be the poor mans versions of those. It doesn't work.

Cuonzo seems like he would be good in the living room. I can see him missing blue chip guys, but missing on athleticism is confusing. Do you think he has an issue actually evaluating talent?

It’s hard to say. He’s not hitting on his top choices.

100%. Not worth the down years for me. I'm ready for a change.

I'll be happy when we're done with the "Lets get the Porters" epoch which resulted in hiring Gonzo.

13-4!!!!!!

Again, this blue collar team has to play together and hard every game, because we are the least athletic team in the SEC. Better recruiting would help, but is it the coaches or is it Mizzou doesn't excite better players.Look at all the great players that have gone elsewhere from the state over the last 20 years.

13-4!!!!!

When you watch teams like Texas Tech, FSU, Nevada last year, not alot of blue chip players, but they have long, athletic, 3 star guys. I guess I don't get how Mizzou can't have those type of guys under Cuonzo. The guy isn't dumb or uninspiring. (Warning gonna bring up race) How can a Black man from East StL, not earn the trust of lower to middle income black families?

Maybe they aren't buying the white supremacy angle that Martin believes in and pushes.

and all 4 losses have been brutal performances. Good teams shouldn't get blown out that often.

Athleticism is not the problem. SEC basketball has historically been low on skill, high on athleticism, and that is why it sucked for decades.

Our team is low on skill. We have plenty of athleticism.

People use Wisconsin as an example. As an alum of both Mizzou and Wisco (also the two teams I watch the most), I can assure you that they are NOT more athletic. They are more SKILLED. Ball handling. Passing. Pressure dribbling when double teamed. Jeremiah Tilmon is much more athletic than Ethan Happ ever is/was. But Wisco DEVELOPED the 3star Happ and his game to be effective.

Cuonzo has not DEVELOPED any of our current roster. They make the same mistakes over and over, without much change. Some players, like Watson, have even REGRESSED while at Mizzou.

We MIGHT get lucky and win a game in the tournament, but next year will be back to the drawing board when all our playmakers leave.

Yes, 13-4 and exactly the type of team you could see bowing out one and done in embarrassing fashion in the tournament.

That’s not the point though. If this was the average nobody would have a problem with it, but this is the ceiling.

We are very likely going to be very bad once again next year and this is where we peaked. It’s not good enough, period

We absolutely do not.

Watch other teams guards vs ours. Watch their bigs.

We do some things well, but we are the less athletic team nearly every time out.

Agreed. We could use three more Kobe Brown type guys. He’s not a plus athlete, but he is at least on par with SEC players.

Mark Smith is perhaps the least athletic shooting guard in the SEC. Javon Pickett has decent speed, but below average jumping ability. Mitchell Smith, Buggs, Watson and Wilmore offer nothing athletically.

Just my evaluation of the 2021 recruits coming in. They are more athletic with longer arms, but it might be a long year until they learn the scheme and each other. It could take a year or two. (With some luck it could be in the second half of next season)

Sean Durugordon LINK (leaper, athletic with long arms)

Trevon Brazile LINK (too skinny, long arms, athletic)

Yaya Keita LINK ( raw, defensively ready, eventually Tilman's replacement)

Kaleb Brown LINK ( game like his big brother, a little bit better, not much of a leaper like his brother, but skilled)

Anton Brookshire LINK (nice 3 point shot, a nice penetrater and passer)
