At the end of National Signing Day, the Texas State Bobcats have not signed a single player out of high school in the 2021 recruiting cycle

Texas State, currently ranked 183rd in the national recruiting rankings, will finish National Signing Day with 11 transfer students and not a single player out of high school signed.

The Texas State Bobcats football Twitter account has posted nothing all day and the TXST Compliance Department tweeted they have no NLIs to validate. Beat reporter Keff Ciardello confirms that TXST is likely to stand pat with their 11 transfer players today.

The 11 transfers include six P5 transfers, four G5 transfers and one community college player. In 2020, Texas State included 20 transfers in their recruiting class - nine of which came from FBS schools.

Barring any surprises, the Texas State Bobcats will have likely had just six kids signed out of high school in the last two recruiting cycles.

Seems like he is going to try to live off the transfer portal but holy shite this is a high risk game he is playing.

I know Jeff Banks was doing most of the heavy lifting in recruiting the 2014/2015 classes, but wasn't Spavital at least part of why we landed Allen, Murray and Kirk?

Surprised to see him abandon recruiting like this. Maybe he was permanently scarred by the QB room implosion he oversaw and swore off HS kids

Well recruiting to certain places is going to be very difficult at best. TX St is one of those schools. So how do you maximize resources and efforts?

There's absolutely no reason a party school like Texas State should be below UTSA, UNT, and UTEP in the totem pole.

It's not even those that are the most concerning. He's getting worse classes than those at FCS schools like SFA, Sam Houston State, and McNeese State.

Now if you look at who he got transfer wise it's might not as bad b/c many are from P5 schools but it still seems like a terrible way to build up a program to so heavily rely on transfers.

Maybe he's trying to get ahead of the curve with the portal since there are so many guys in it this year but looking at their list from 247 only 3 of those guys currently transferring to State are immediately available. LINK

Considering part of the reason his star rose in the first place was his supposed recruiting skills it's shocking to see him essentially abandon high school recruiting not just out of state but in Texas as well. One would think he surely should be able to get a lot of the best guys going to Southland schools and as well as those going to CUSA and Sun Belt schools.

Hell, even Rice was able to get 17 3 stars to sign up. A fun as hell party school like Texas State shouldn't have that much trouble getting a lot of guys out of Texas.

Also according to internet chatter Texas State has 10 scholarships open for transfers.

Should be interesting to see if this works out in the short run. In the long run it feels like he is trying t get a good enough season out of Texas State that he can move on as quickly as possible and doesn't much care about the issues this style of recruiting could potentially leave in it's wake.
