Pache will have a good shot to make the the starting lineup,
What? Pache will be manning CF for the next 10+ seasons barring injury. He’s already an elite CF, is really growing into his body faster than I expected—he’ll hit 20-25 bombs this year—and not only wasn’t intimidated by the pressure of the postseason, but seemed to thrive on it and brought some fire. He’ll obviously have peaks and valleys like most rookies, but if they stick him somewhere in the middle of the lineup with some protection, he could be one of the favorites for NLROY.

Duvall in right,
Well, he’s not under contract, though I think his injury will allow us to re-sign him for less than he would have cost if he’d have stayed healthy and hot in the NLCS. But he ain’t playing right, that’s for damn sure. He’ll man left and could be a nice trade piece at the deadline if Waters is ready to move up.
quote:
Riley in left
Riley is not only a better defensive 3B than a LF, but he’s also a better defensive 3B than Camargo. But clearly you had a brain fart and forgot Ronnie.
This is obviously under the assumption that there’s no DH in the NL this year, which unfortunately I do think is a deal breaker regarding offering Ozuna a legit contract. I know MLB said to operate under the assumption there would be no NL DH in ‘21, but that hasn’t been 100% confirmed yet, has it? I’m assuming the MLBPA is gonna want to keep it, but can they even negotiate it before the CBA is up? Regardless of if they have it or not, it needs to be determined one way or the other ASAP. It’s not fair to either side to not know.

Y’all mean Vince Cellini? Or Nick Charles? Them and Fred Hickman, Gary Miller, Dan Hicks, Hannah Storm, Van Earl Wright (and others) were how I got my daily highlights as a youth. Sportcenter’s Top 10 got nothing on Sports Tonight’s Play of the Day.

unless the Braves go sign someone like Michael Brantley.
My brother mentioned him if we don’t sign Ozuna. To be clear, I absolutely want to re-sign Ozuna. But if there’s no DH in ‘21 and Ozuna’s looking to get something like 4 years $100 million, I’m not sure Brantley wouldn’t provide more value.
Admittedly, I heard Brantley and thought of his dad, but MLB NETWORK just had a segment on him that opened my eyes a bit, so I did a little wiki research. His beat season was ‘14 when he finished 3rd in the AL MVP voting.
In ‘15, Brantley batted .310/.379/.480 with 15 home runs, led the majors in doubles (45), and had the lowest strikeout percentage of all major league baseball players (8.6%).He also led the major leagues in walks-per-strikeout at 1.18, and had the highest contact percentage on his swings in the major leagues (92.6%).
Had 2 shoulder surgeries in ‘16 and finished with only like 36 ABs.
Struggled with injuries in ‘17, too, but he batted .299/.357/.444 with 9 home runs.
Looking like his career may be getting derailed by nagging injuries, he comes back in ‘18 and Batting .306 with five home runs and 31 RBIs, Brantley was named to the 2018 MLB All-Star Game.In 2018 he batted .309/.364/.468 with 17 home runs, as he also had the highest contact percentage on his swings in the major leagues (90.9%).
After a really good ‘18 season, he signs a very reasonable two-year, $32 million contract with the Houston Astros.
In 2019 he batted .311/.372/.503 with 40 doubles (5th in the AL), 22 home runs, and 90 RBIs in 575 at bats, On defense, he had a 10 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) rating, the best in the major leagues among left fielders.
In 2020 he batted .300/.364/.476 with 24 runs, 15 doubles (9th in the AL), 5 home runs, and 22 RBIs in 170 at bats.[42] He was the DH in 26 games, and played left field in 19 games.
Yeah, he’ll be 33, and he battled some injuries a few years ago, but he’s gotten better. And he’s the only hitter in the MLB that makes contact on over 90% of his swings and doesn’t strike out. And he’s grown into gap power, hitting over 20 home runs and 40 doubles a year. He’s a veteran and professional hitter that could help Freddie balance the young guys and add another lefty in the lineup. If there’s no DH this year, you could probably get him for another 2 year $30 million deal and platoon him with Duval early on in left, DH em inter league, and if one emerges where you just can’t keep him out of the lineup, you can keep the other as a big power bat off the bench or move him at the deadline.
Again, I want to keep Ozuna. But as hard as he hits the ball, he’s never put together consecutive seasons like
he did last year. Hell, he didn’t even put a whole season together then either. Brantley may just very well provide more value and flexibility than Ozuna.

I don’t know much about DJ Lamahieu. Apparently, the Braves have reached out or that may be a rumor. Would this be a good signing?

No. He's 33 and wants 5/$100M. He also plays 2B, where we already have Albies.
Need to shore up left field.

He's 32 and played more than 60 games at 3B over the last two seasons. The contract demands don't seem to be up our ally, but he's not a terrible option. The yankees' current offer is rumored to be in the neighborhood of 5/80-85.

I would sign LeMahieu for 15-20 mil per season and wouldn’t think twice. Plug him in at 3B

don't really care. they can do whatever they want to do with him. not my problem.

He may be open to a one year deal if the price is high enough, who knows. I just don't know if we are going to spend much more.

Play him in the OF. I'll take his potential over ender grounding out to second 2-3 times a game

This ownership is not going to spend heavily on one guy so getting Ozuna or Bauer is a pipe dream
As stated earlier -
Ozuna is in negotiations with the Dodgers and others are saying the Braves are out on the Ozuna sweepstakes.
As expected
Also going to arbitration over less than 700k for both Swanson and Soroka. We are a penny penching organization

Not true.
You have to remember to that getting the MVP an extension is the #1 priority right now.

I was a little surprised by this, but maybe it’s not a big deal. I wish the league would be more forthcoming with the DH, it’s almost February.

We signed Morton+Smyly for twice what they were projected to get.

Yes, but for far less (15 and 11 million) than the spots they are replacing (Ozuna 18 million and Hamels 18 million). So unless there is a another move of greater or equal value, the sum will still be less by several million.

Which could end up being good deals if either return to form however it’s also possible neither one reach the starting 5 and paying extra for aging vets on 1 year deals is done on purpose because they don’t want to pay long term deals on risky signs. Josh Donaldson and Ozuna were great signs and both worked out but they also swung themselves out of a Braves uniform because we only went for 1 year deals with both.
