230.50 rating, 70% completion rate, 6/0 TD-INT in four games...
Kudos to Smart for bringing him in and JT for making the most of his opportunity while clearly not at 100%. Hope he’s able to take a step forward in 2021.

We struggled against Cincy.
But I noticed that in his 3 other games. He was money. Dialed in on 3rd down.

The thing that has me excited about JTD is that he loves football. Seems like every game the announcers are raving about his drive to learn and get better. I can only imagine he will be spending countless hours grinding this offseason.

His ability to diagnose the defense presnap and ability to get the ball downfield makes him very difficult to stop on 3rd downs. Defenses still have to defend all 3 levels. It puts a lot of stress on them.
Defenses like blitzes as he isnt mobile and doesnt give up on plays.... but that also makes him dangerous for TDs if the pass pro gives him that extra half second.

Cincy has a good defense. It was definitely the toughest defense he faced in his short tenure

Lack of continuity in the OL played a big part in that as well.
Facing an aggressive 3-3-5 is tough enough with continuity.

That's where having a bushel of playmakers who are extremely difficult to defend in man coverage comes in handy.

Absolutely. I worry a little about JT if he doesnt have Pickens as a bailout outlet (i.e. if GP1 gets hurt next season).
But Cook and DW0 may be suitable replacements if ever called upon to be a "heave it and hope for the best".

I feel like Blaylock has earned that kind of trust too. Arian Smith is a true deep threat as far as getting down there. We haven’t seen enough of his hands I suppose.

We hit a lot of chunk plays on 3rd down so no surprises here.
I do think our team struggled against teams that brought a lot of pressure with extra rushers. Hopefully we call more screen play-calls next season. Cincinnati & MSU brought extra rushers all game and we didn't make them pay as often as we should have with a simple RB, WR, or TE screen.

We hit some big screens against Cincy.
But all season, our OL was not good in the screen game. We looked lost and inept. The screen game will be needed next year with Daniel's mobility.

Against us their base D was like a 4-3. Def had 4 down lineman. They were pretty aggressive shooting gaps and attacking us at the los. Took us a bit to see it and adjust.

They actually went 3-3-5 too.
Gave us looks we werent expecting (brooks was expecting that 3-2-6 with that safety type in the box giving it the 3-3-5 front. That wasnt the look we got as they benched that safety type most of the game for a 240 pound linebacker).

They gave us different looks obviously, but they went with a 4 man front a decent bit.

If our OL actually starts playing with some consistency next year, Daniels is going to shred some people. Our pass protection might be the difference in our season next year.
