I would say an average of 5 spots higher with Kirby.

Seems like we were 6-7 with an occasional strong year with Richt's laissez faire approach and 1-3 with Kirby's intense approach.

What say you?

Waterfalls, barbershops, and helicopters cost money.

Helicopters with waterfalls and barbershops cost a whole lot of money.

So do tackles, running backs, wide receivers and quarterbacks.

Richt was fine 1st half of his career.
Our recruiting took a big plunge once Saban got cranked up at Bama and even Muschamp at UF was killing us on the recruiting trail. From '10 to '13 we routinely finished 4th or 5th in the conference.

It picked up in '14 and '15 with Pruitt
and we FINALLY started spending money on facilities, support staff and recruiting because Kirby insisted on it.

Its where it shoulda been all along had
we invested in the program and Richt didn't get lazy.

Richt recruited lights out at skill positions. But his perennial under recruiting of beef, particularly OL, was maddening. I remember one year we had 70 something players on scholarship. And the year we started ranked #1 (2008) it seems we were down to like three sec caliber linemen before the season even started.

Around 08, Katherine started getting sick and he was missing his kids growing up. He couldn’t be a family man and give 100% to his job at the same time.

By 08, we were at a point where we were beginning to be behind other a lot of key teams in recruiting infrastructure. Both staff and facility. Richt probably didn’t do enough or have enough political clout to get it done until we were too far behind. He also, recruited more depth at skill over line. I think it was a philosophy that carried over from FSU where they won it that way.
By the time Smart got here, we had moved in the right direction with the facilities and extra staff. Smart learned a lot on the how and what to do’s from his time at Bama. I don’t think many outwork Smart. He also has a control the LOS on both sides philosophy, which is why we see more focus on depth there. You look at Bama this year and even with scoring being higher, that still seems to be the winning philosophy in the current era. Pound and stretch, stretch and pound...

Spot on, and I know you know. Kirby's not a game coach, however (although I am cognisant of his greater player control during games, which is oh so difficult in post Erk Dooley days).
