Auburn - Kiffin, Freeze, someone else?

It's official, Gus is gone. Boosters must have wanted him out bad to fork over $22m.

I would expect they at least kick the tires on Kiffin. Hopefully, he shuts them down. Some fans want Freeze.

Someone else.

Kiffin isn't leaving after 1 year (he's already learned that lesson the hard way)

SEC still won't sign off on Freeze coming back into the conference.

Not too concerned about Kiffin leaving. It wouldn't surprise me if Auburn called Freeze but supposedly boosters don't want him

Auburn doesn't need the SEC to sign off on it. They can just strongly advise against it

If this happened in year 3 or 4 I would be worried. With the momentum he has right now with everything I’m not worried about Kiffin. Freeze would win in year one and would be a bitch to deal with in the west.

Auburn would have to basically make Kiffin the highest paid coach in the league to get him to leave after one year. They have their eyes on other candidates first before they get desperate enough to pull that move.

If Freeze/Napier and other top candidates are gone they may try it but highly unlikely

Freeze has got to be their top candidate (and this sounds ridiculous but so is football in the state of Alabama) solely because he has actually demonstrated the ability to beat Saban and Bama. Again, sounds crazy, but I think that alone makes him their top choice.

Kiffin buyout 9M, Cristobal buyout 5.2M, Freeze, Napier, etc. would be much less. I doubt they even call Kiffin. That's just way too much money when they have to pay 30M for Gus and Co.

I just hope we don't let Sexton leverage us into giving anyone a Muschamp type contract.

I wouldn't be upset at giving Kiffin a bigger contract. I think we've caught lightening in a bottle

Per al.com reporter:

“The main names that Auburn sources have mentioned at this point as being of interest to at least some of the behind the scenes power players there (in no particular order): Steve Sarkisian, Mario Cristobal, Hugh Freeze, Lane Kiffin”

Doesn’t mean he’s their guy but I bet he’s in the mix

Wow, an al.com reporter put out some click bait b.s. because that is journalism today. Some dumb names. Auburn is like State in that they are inherently jealous of big brother so they would never do Saban's boy Sark and Kiffin is again, unproven and expensive. Cristobal or Freeze sounds about right especially since Freeze beat Bama.

Just spoke to a columnist who works for Auburn Rivals. He says absolutely not on Hugh Freeze

Freeze at Auburn would be great for Ole Miss and Kiffin. All the attention and heat would be focused there. Steve and the MSU media brigade would be so torn about who to complain about too. Freeze will always be red meat for those guys. They would be forced to split time between complaining about Hugh and us.

Boosters didn’t want Kiffin either. Kiffin was grass roots and the big wigs finally got on board. Freeze would likely be similar story at Auburn. Average fan probably wants him while the top 1% probably doesn’t.

I guess you’re forgetting Cristobal was Bama’s second in command for three years (2013-2016).

I’d take a serious look at Sark. Not only would his hire improve the offense and recruiting, it might be the tipping point in getting Saban to retire. Does Saban really want to rebuild another staff at his age when he could go out on top.

Saban is one of those guys that won't quit until his health doesn't allow him to continue

But then the SEC won't help Auburn win multiple games in the first half of the year to keep them relevant before giving up on them.

Somethings up. Freeze is light years better than all the other coaches hired this year imo. Very odd how Auburn, TN, or even Vandy didn’t go after him.
