This is true I feel like the talent at the WR is unreal but they have done little to show that talent sure 2 WRs are pretty good. In all reality the two best GA seasons in the last 10 years have come from when the offense had an insanely good group of WRs. Fromm's freshman year he had great receivers and they were deep. They had less talent coming out of HS as the ones we have now but damn did they develop well. The other team was the one that lost to Alabama in SEC championship game with AM. Those teams had decent QBs that just put the ball where it needed to be and the WRs did the rest!!!

I’m guessing we might lose Mathis as well?

The potential is there but they're freshman and sophomores right now.

My guess is that Mathis is not wanting to take WR type hits following brain surgery.

lolwut? We had great luck picking up Javon Wims from Juco and he outperformed his rating as an excellent jump ball/out route target. Terry Godwin was a 5* out of HS and arguably didn't actually develop as well as most expected. Had some great catches over his career, but had to really fight just to get his snaps/targets. Mecole Hardman was the third leading receiver, and if we're being honest, we did a shite job of managing his development by not figuring out where he was most valuable - starting at DB primarily and then converting him to WR later.

We've been pretty shite at both recruiting and developing the WR position for quite some time. We've finally gotten better at recruiting it (lord only knows how, given what our offense has looked like the last couple of seasons). Developing is the next thing to unlock (hopefully without losing progress on the recruiting front).

Prior to this year, you could almost excuse some of the receiver performance due to the relative infrequency of us throwing the ball more than a few yards downfield. This year, while we're throwing it downfield more, it's clear that the QB performance is not doing any of the receivers any favors, but we're going to need to see improvement on that front.

IDK.Ridley and Cager are both on NFL rosters and who knows what happens with Jeremiah Hollaman if he wasn't dismissed.

There are others like DRob and Landers,Tommy Bush that didn't develop due to injury or whatever reasons. We've also had some flat out bad luck with injuries. Blaylock,Rosemary,Pickens and Bush this year and numerous last year along with folks leaving at the position.

Expirence is a big factor when it comes to WR success and unfortunately our most talented guys are Sophomores and Freshman and many are injured or banged up.

We've had the following miss significant time:
Pickens
Blaylock
Smith

Rosemy Jack Saint is now out for the remainder of the season.

I know it isnt WRs, but our RBs have been dinged up as well. Kenny McIntosh is a great weapon out of the backfield.
James Cook has been dinged up.
Tre' McKitty missed 2 games.

Considering the recruiting misses in 2017 (holloman dismissed, webb converted to defense) and NFL departures from 2016, we have Kearis and Robertson from 2018 as the only skilled upperclassmen to lead the offense.

We've done a great job recruiting in 2019 and 2020 at WR (a reason not to hit up the transfer portal in 2020 like we did with Cager in 2019). But we've had no Blaylock and Pickens the past 2 weeks. And no Arian Smith as well (now no Rosemy Jack Saint for the rest of the season either).

Cager was a grad transfer, tough to take any development credit for what he's doing currently. Unfortunately was not able to stay healthy for us.
Ridley I feel like is Exhibit A for our limited WR development. Right, wrong, or indifferent, Kirby's early attitude toward what he wanted at the WR position from a physical/blocking standpoint generally left freshmen unable to crack the depth chart for much playing time. I think we're seeing an adjustment as he starts to realize that he needs explosiveness at the position, and the tradeoff may be slightly less physical blocking specimens on the outside.

Holloman I mentioned in a post a page back or so. He would have been our best development story likely if he could have stayed out of trouble. He was also our highest rated WR in that class @ 125 nationally. Mark Webb was right behind him but he shifted to DB. Beyond that, Trey Blount (324) has not had any meaningful contributions receiving and Matt Landers (681) is shaping up to be the "almost most promising" receiver that we all wish didn't have to see the field.

Not sure what you're getting at here exactly. We likely are in agreement. I've said we've improved our recruiting, thus the reason our talented WRs are young. That doesn't change the fact that our development of other WRs up to this point seems to be subpar such that Landers, Bush, DRob, etc are not able to contribute in any meaningful fashion. Certainly losing Holloman to dismissal hurts a ton here, but another key problem is that some of our better WR contributors have been transfer/Juco (Wims/Cager) so we don't get 3 years of value out of them.

When I say we we've sucked at recruiting/developing the position for some time, that extends beyond Kirby's tenure. We only have one receiver in the history of the program who has managed a 1,000 yard season (Terrence Edwards) and you have to go back to 2012 to find one that cracked 900. We've seemingly taken a spread the ball around approach more often than not when it comes to passing the ball, whereas I feel like other teams are better able to scheme to ensure that their best receiver(s) are getting the ball more often. We may never be a team that throws it a million times a game, but to the point of experience, I think we could do a better job ensuring that the players we *want* catching the ball, are better prepared to do so, and then are able to have the lion's share of targets as well.

If you actually watched him at Miami and not just highlights....he was terrible outside of his freshman year.

Not doing much currently because he's injured but I do remember multiple Miami posters ragging on the guy when he transfered and he was an ace for us. Not I'd give the Canes much credit.

We still put guys in the NFL pre Kirby. Malcolm Mitchell,Michael Bennett,Chris Conley, etc

We didn't "suck" at it but compared to Bama the last couple of years or LSU last year,we weren't at their level of production... almost nobody is and the 1,000 yard mark isn't a qualifier or non qualifier
