If so, have you seen anything particularly cool with it? What kind of telescope do you have?

I've been an amateur astronomer for many years and have several telescopes (I have bought and sold many over the years).

Currently, I have an 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain (somewhat of a hybrid between a reflector and a refractor.) Also currently have a 130mm refractor and an 80mm refractor.

There are many sights to view - the four moons of Jupiter; the rings of Saturn; mountains on the moon; most recently: Comet Neowise. I've been able to photograph super-novas in distant galaxies (I had an 11" telescope at that time). I have observed the Andromeda Galaxy and various star clusters.

If you're interested in telescopes, Google for astronomy clubs in your area and attend one of their "star parties". Club members are always anxious to show off their equipment to newbies.

That’s pretty cool!

Does light pollution affect what you see with a telescope? I live right outside DC

Yes, urban light pollution can drastically affect what you view through a telescope. I live in rural Texas, and have beautiful night skies.

You might check out this Northern Virginia Astronomy Club. When the 'rona virus is under control, they will probably have monthly star gazes in dark area remote from DC.

I bought a cheap telescope off Anazon a couple of months back. We've had a lot of fun looking at the moon and Jupiter. This one isn't powerful enough to pick up Jupiter's moons or Saturn's ring. This one is good for getting started and learning how to use one. I'll probably upgrade if I can catch a deal around Christmas.

I have a cheapie too. Still cool to check out the Moon and Venus on cool clear night from the deck.

I have a 10” Meade. My favorite experiences have been seeing two comets, Halley and Hyakutake. Halley was a big disappointment but Hyakutake was brilliant.
