Malzahn's contract is at least high on the list as one of the worst for a head coach in college football of all time.
How many programs have wanted to fire their coach but literally could't only because the buyout is too large? Asked another way, how many head coaches have been able to hold their school hostage because their buyout so large? Sure buyouts have had some effects on decisions in the past, but I don't remember a buyout ever being the sole and only reason a school couldn't fire a coach. But I admit my memory isn't great.
Whether or not it's THE worst is subjective, but it's damn sure horrible and won't soon be forgotten.

We can fire Gus. Boosters have to raise 10.5 million. The rest is paid over 4 years. 2.5 a year.
Pay a new coach (Sam Pittman type, smaller school, Bill Clark, Billy Napier, etc.) 4-4.5 million a year. Profit.
Perfect year to be hiring a coach as many cannot afford to.
I pledge to support anyone but Gus
