lol it’s becoming more common that an NFL talent QB is winning titles but it’s still not the rule. If Bama can win a national title with fricking Jake Coker 4 years ago, and Ohio State can win one with a 3rd String QB — we can win one with a competent enough QB and an incredible supporting cast.

Having to do more with less is great training.

And we'd all take coker in a heartbeat over stetson. Its not just about QB, although that's a ton of it, it's offense in general. After 2010 saban really started to shift away from the archaic system he was winning titles with and realized he needed to modernize. You want to point to coker but look at the rest of the offense. Lane kiffin was oc, which would have been unheard of for saban a few years earlier. They had Derrick henry at rb and calvin ridley and oj howard catching passes. That is a dynamic offense.

We've had talent to excel but playcalling has held us back ever since bobo left. If we had bobo in 17/18 we may have back to back titles

Lane kiffin is the only reason Saban moved forward and it is stunningly obvious after this weekend's abortion by the Bama d.

Based off what exactly? His stats were not impressive. His best game was the national title by far. In terms of regular season, Bennett is completely outperforming him in every category. Now, I’m not ready to announce him as our savior through 3 games but I wouldn’t take Coker over Stet as of right now.

life?

The season you mentioned for coker he threw for 3100 yards at 67% with 21:8 TD/Int. In the home stretch of their biggest games (SECCG, playoff, natty) he averaged 280 ypg and threw for 6 TD and 0 int. That's good stuff. Not to mention he is naturally gifted enough to get schollys to both FSU and bama and stetson..was not.

I'm not hating on stetson. Just saying that he's really played 2.5 games in his life here and we're comparing him to a guy that's won a national title and looked pretty good doing it.

cam newton is what got saban's wheels spinning, lane was just the vehicle to get them moving IMO.

bama was up by 24 I think in the first half against cam in 2010, any saban team prior to that day that's a stone cold lock to win but cam did his thing. In 2012 manziel and that offense embarrassed their D. In 2013 nick marshall and that offense beat them then they lost again to oklahoma. I think at that point saban realized he needed a more up tempo, spread out offense ideally wiht a more mobile QB and that offense was gonna have to start winning them titles. Enter lane in 2014 to help modernize their offense. They still lot to hugh freeze and urban meyer that year but you could clearly see the offense had changed from the 07-11 versions of saban ball. Coker in 15 was the last of that type of QB then they've gone hurts and tua, and I think they fully expected bryce to be that next guy by this point it's jsut mac has been so good you can't really bench him.

But my main point is...even a curmudgeon built on "play elite defense and run it down their throat 4 quarters" like saban realized YEARS ago that you can't win titles in this day and age anymore scoring 27 points a game. You have to open it up and put points on the board. It wasn't until 2020 that kirby finally got the message and hopefully monken will help get us there.

Stet' could win a title with those Bama teams, especially the early ones with all the Heisman backs.

It always takes a miracle for Auburn to win that game.

so could a ton of QBs. That doens't really apply to right now though. I like stetson but let's just be honest, his toughest defensive test has been tennessee at home, not exactly a juggernaut. We'll know a ton more about stetson after this weekend.

What I'm curious about is if we look flat out awful (which I do NOT expect, just thinking out loud) if we give Daniels any action?

So playing the best defensive team of the past decade and half is going to tell us more?

Who knows with this Bama team. B

This bama defense is nothing like the last decade of their defenses. Their fans universally hate the dc and the scoreboard reflects it as well.

But yes...this will tell us much more about stetson's championship makeup than playing tennessee at home or an Auburn team that could realistically be 0-3 right now

Not all that impressive this year.

I just hope Stetson makes it out of the game in one piece. It would be a helluva introduction to the SEC if JT Daniels has to come in against Alabama because Stetson has gotten banged up.

Stetson has a lot of confidence, which is good, but his physical limitations may eventually catch up with him.

you act like people want stetson to fail or say he sucks, neither of which is true. I liek stetson and he's surpassed all my expecations thus far. I jsut don't think we should be crowning him a national title caliber level QB at this point in time based on his sample size of 3 games against teams we are clearly much better than anyway.

Sounds like Fromm and Georgia in 2018.

Through the regular season he’s actually averaging very similar yardage numbers to Stet so far. Stet has a better overall QBR and TDs per game. Again, not saying Stet is going to be our savior, but It’s not far off to assume he is going to get better as he gets more game experience and reps. Coker was a great game manager his entire 15 games as starter. Nothing more really.
