As much as I dislike all the schools in the Big 10 I am excited that they decided to play. These past two weekend lineups have been snoozers. It's starting to get back to normal somewhat, even though it will never be close to normal this year due to the fans not being there creating unique atmospheres

They really made themselves look like assholes

Congrats on your playoff spot Ohio State

I'm looking forward to hearing what medical data changed so dramatically that they felt it necessary to spin 180 in the middle of the stream.

The Pac12 are the ones looking like assholes right now. I don't think they care however.

Who knows but what they have to follow I do not see them making it a whole season.

The earliest a student-athlete can return to game competition is 21 days following a COVID-19 positive diagnosis.
8 games with no bye weeks.
quote:
The Big Ten Conference will use data provided by each Chief Infection Officer (CInO) to make decisions about the continuation of practice and competition, as determined by team positivity rate and population positivity rate, based on a seven-day rolling average:
Team positivity rate (number of positive tests divided by total number of tests administered): Green 0-2% Orange 2-5% Red >5%
Population positivity rate (number of positive individuals divided by total population at risk): Green 0-3.5% Orange 3.5-7.5% Red >7.5%
Decisions to alter or halt practice and competition will be based on the following scenarios:
Green/Green and Green/Orange: Team continues with normal practice and competition.
Orange/Orange and Orange/Red: Team must proceed with caution and enhance COVID-19 prevention (alter practice and meeting schedule, consider viability of continuing with scheduled competition).
Red/Red: Team must stop regular practice and competition for a minimum of seven days and reassess metrics until improved.

More than half the conference can’t practice due to strict lock downs in California and Washington. Not really at the feet of the Pac 12 in that case.

Its a win win. They still look like assholes but we get more college football.

This is so. The government would have to literally change state COVID policy to make this possible. I mostly have a hard time believing that Cali really cares, to that degree, about college football.

It just makes sense to me that the playoff committee needs a base amount of games to compare apples to apples. If the B1G is going with the 8 conference games it would seem that the rest of power 5 could get by with the same minimum number, if push comes to shove. Even if all SEC teams had to cancel, postpone 2 weeks of games we are still dealing with a level playing field.
On the other hand, if the B1G can't get through 8 games, they should have to concede their place at the playoff table.

The governor of California has thrown a wrench into the reasoning everyone was peddling about the Pac 12 not resuming.
quote:
.@GavinNewsom is asked about @USC_Athletics' football players' letter to him...asking to be allowed to begin their season?
"There's nothing in the guidelines deny the ability of the Pac 12 to resume [football games]."
Says he's negotiated with the NCAA & Pac 12 on this issue.

I hope the season goes forth but there is still a lot of uncertainty moving forward. The ACC is currently scrambling as fear that a few schools may back out due to the virus and clusters breaking out on campuses and around. The ACC said as long as they have 8 teams that will play the season out they will continue but the next month will determine a lot.
In NC, where 4 ACC teams reside it is still being monitored as we have still not gone to phase 3.
In regards to the B10 it feels like they are setting them up to fail. One team gets a cluster and that team could potentially miss 3 straight games since players can not return for 21 days.

Jeremy Pruitt just said he was pumped because he only had 34 players who missed the last practice for Tennessee.
He went on to say that so many guys have missed so many practices that he felt that he was going to extend camp 2 weeks into the season. What in the world is going on at Tennessee?

How the Big Ten's return impacts the CFB Playoff picture (247Sports)
quote:
The 2020 College Football Playoff looked like it’d be a three-conference affair with the Big Ten and Pac-12 postponing their 2020 seasons. No longer. The Big Ten on Wednesday, following weeks of speculation, announced it would return to play the weekend of Oct. 23-24.
That start date, along with a nine-game schedule (everyone will play a ninth game the week of the conference championship), puts the Big Ten in position to reach the College Football Playoff despite starting a full month after the rest of college football. The Big Ten championship game is slated for Dec. 19, meaning the league will play nine straight weeks without a bye. That would allow the Big Ten to end its season a day before the final CFB Playoff ranking reveal.
With the Big Ten eligible for the playoff, the impact on the CFB Playoff field is nearly endless. Let’s run through some of the more notable scenarios. . . (more)

So, they're just saying "frick CDC guidance" now?

My guess is their insurance company is providing the guidance.
