Georgia Prep Football (GHSAA)

Im seeing on twitter and reddit that both Chief Borders and Carlos Del Rio have been ruled ineligible for their senior seasons by the GHSAA.
I guess transferring from one high school to another is cool, unless you’re committed to Florida. There’s already a petition with over 700 signatures for Del Rio to be granted eligibility.
According to Borders camp (via twitter), they went about the transfer the right way. Interesting to see how this will play out, and if this garbage will be applied to ALL prep athletes.
Football recruiting in the state of Georgia, especially the metro-atlanta area, is the worst kept secret. Hate it for these guys, ready to get them all on board.
Does anyone know if there has been recent rule changes by the GHSAA?
FWIW, I played at Camden (graduated in ‘08), so I’m rather familiar with how business used to be done up there. I remember when Coach Jeff Herron (former Camden HC) left Prince Avenue Christian for Grayson, he ended up with something like 13 of the top 20 players in the state of Georgia, and no one batted an eye until after the season. Of course he left and went to T.L. Hannah (SC) after that, but we all know how that recruiting goes up there in Atlanta.
When Rush Propst took over at Colquitt, he opened up a pipeline of talent to Moultrie (which has next to nothing in the way of attractive jobs mind you). Now that he’s at Valdosta, Jake Garcia (USC Trojans) commit, transfers over from the state of California, and to my knowledge is eligible.
GHSAA is acting like the NCAA it seems with respect to granting immediate eligibility...

Sure seems that way. In all honesty, I don’t care either way, but I would like to see more transparency for how these decisions are made by the GHSAA (NCAA too for that matter). The optics don’t look great when it is allowed for some players/coaches/teams and not others.

Weird, GHSA usually rubber stamps everything I’ve seen except for some Marietta kids, one a UF commit, which they eventually overturned. I wonder if their schools have screwed up the paperwork some how.

I happen to know the GHSA President (Glen White) and can say I would trust any decision he makes. Highly intelligent, thoughtful and extremely fair minded.
And if you want to insinuate that the two kids were denied because they are committed to Florida you would be wrong. Glen is a long time fan of Alabama not Georgia. I doubt Alabama fans have any problem with Florida fans/players.

It sucks for the kids but I hope this is a trend to put a stop to this crap.

Top players have been transferring to other schools for decades in Georgia. While I would not consider myself as a top player I went to two different High Schools myself.
It pretty much goes to other sports as well. My son wrestled in high school and was "recruited" by two other schools.
I would guess this goes on in other states as well.

How do you prove it, though. I mean, if a family moves to another part of Georgia or into a different school district they are forced by the state to go to the school that is in that district. Because of the long drive for my job, I moved out of Griffin up into the McDonough/Hampton area. I have since moved to another area. We live in a mobile society.

I'm getting old now but this was not a big thing 20 years ago when I graduated. It happened occasionally sure but I played at one of the top programs 7A (was 5A back then) in the state at the time and we received zero big name transfers in my four years.
Individual transfers aren't even my issue, it's these super teams that get formed where all the sudden guys from like 5 different high schools all the sudden end up at place like Grayson, or Marietta, or Archer etc...

Well, I graduated in 1975, so I am older than you. You might not have been aware of it, but it happened more than you would think. I saw some very good players transfer many times. Some I knew very well.
But my point is how do you know or how can you prove that they are moving just to play a sport at a certain school. It is near impossible. You have jobs that transfer people all the time, moms and dads transfer for better job opportunities....shoot, I have moved at least once just to shorten the drive to my job. There are dozens of reasons people transfer to other schools. Some people move to a different school district so their kids can go to a better school.
Just because an excellent player moves and goes to a certain school, it does not necessarily mean there is something going on.
Don't get me wrong. I have no doubt it happens, and it is probably more prevalent than it was when I was in school and when you were in school.
A VERY common practice when i was in school, is when a kid showed promise in the 7 or 8th grade they would be held back a year for some made up reason so he could have an extra year to mature (Body and mind). This would happen with excellent students, too. I knew a ton of people that did this.
I get what you are saying, but you have to be able to prove something is going on. That is almost impossible to do at the HS level.
HS has changed a lot. When I was in school they had
AAA
AA
A
B
C
One team per region went to the playoffs as opposed to 4 going today.

Out of curiosity, I am guessing you have no problem with them denying those guys eligibility? I mean, I have no problem with it, but I have no dog in that fight.
