What I don't understand when it comes to college sports is if we don't give a shite when it comes to students and we're going to have them congregating, why do we give a shite if a dozen athletes test positive? If we're going to let students go back to school and get sick, then just have them play and let them get sick. Or don't. But be consistent.

OU just had about 7-8 players test positive for the virus.(not good or safe)
They tested positive coming back from a break. In other words, they were doing what they would do without football when they were exposed to and “infected” by the virus.
Their “cases” have zero to do with football happening this fall.

If Mizzou will open up the campus for school they will now be around more humans daily than they were back home.

This is an interesting claim that, like 70% of the claims you make, has very little basis other than your supposition.

I don't know about those players, but in fairness, my son pretty much kept it limited to the same 20 people or so between family and a half dozen friends. He now lives in a house with 50+ other guys, is hosting recruitment, coming into contact with who knows how many more, working at the Rec dealing with even more, not to mention classes, the library, the bars and wherever else he's going. Of course, all of that can be meaningless and he's just one kid.

If he's young and in shape the chances are like 99.99% he will be fine even if he gets it

I'd say the there are other diseases that are to be more feared than corona by the players, especially the star players. Those jersey chasers aren't always clean.

Well that didn't take long. His roommate tested positive so I'm sure he's got it.
I agree. He'll likely be fine. But the dumbfricks running this shitshow won't let him get tested because he's asymptomatic.
The real dilemma is that I have my 80 year old father in law living with us since January because he had surgery on his one good lung. Can't bring my own son home without killing his grandpa and I don't want that weighing on my son.
Will probably tell him to just rough it out down there and hope he stays asymptomatic.

That is a good thing and the way it is supposed to be done. Only the sick should be tested. Asymptomatic aren't spreaders.
You should ask your dad how he feels about it instead of deciding for him. There are 100year olds out there surviving covid with no issues.

I like the SEC's moxie but it's only going to take one breakout to shut football down and that's inevitable. It's only going to take one break out on campus to shut it down and it sounds like that is already happening.

I’m glad we are flattening the curve.

Disagree. Dumbfricks shouldn't be running the shitshow. I also disagree wholeheartedly about only testing if symptomatic. The only reason to say that is if you are trying to move the numbers one way or another, which is a political reason. I don't give a frick about the politics of it. If I want to get tested, I should be able to be tested. Just like I can run down to Walgreens and get tested for strep.
Asymptomatic aren't spreaders...forgive but unless you provide your curriculum vitae, I'm gonna hold off on believing that 100%. In fact, you're literally the only person I have ever heard state this and it sounds like something that would come from a nutjob QAnon thread. Of course, I'm open to the possibility that I'm wrong bout that. Spreaders that is. I'm right about QAnon are nutjobs.

It's my father in law and he lives with me. You don't think we haven't talked about it? Suffice it to say, he's not as ambivalent about dying as you are.
As for my dad...he thinks I'm being irresponsible for not having him tested if for no other reason than peace of mind.

And there are people that survive ebola and AIDS. I don't think that means he'd voluntarily expose himself to either.

quote:well the WHO also says that, but the CDC is arguing with themm. They're also arguing over asymptomatic versus pre-symptomatic. If asymptomatic are spreaders they are not very good at it

COVID-19 is mainly spread through respiratory droplets expelled by someone who is coughing or has other symptoms such as fever or tiredness. Many people with COVID-19 experience only mild symptoms. This is particularly true in the early stages of the disease. It is possible to catch COVID-19 from someone who has just a mild cough and does not feel ill.
Some reports have indicated that people with no symptoms can transmit the virus. It is not yet known how often it happens. WHO is assessing ongoing research on the topic and will continue to share updated findings.
That's from their website. Doesn't sound like they are flat out saying that asymptomatic people don't spread.
Beyond that, what you described is exactly what I was talking about with the dumbfricks running the shitshow. No one can agree on anything so who the hell knows.
Having said that, I am all for notsince having the right to play fast and loose with the lives of his family members. I'm also for me having the right to play it somewhat cautious with the lives of my family members by at least insisting on them testing my son before he is around my parents or my wife's parent. Some assholes only believe one of those two groups should have the right to do what they feel best with their own healthcare issues.
