There’s a growing body of evidence out there that lead some experts to believe that COVID is burning itself out. That is the reason for places that have already been ravaged seeing their case count plummet. Places like New York and Spain and Italy have relatively few cases now. Much of the sun belt is nearing that point where cases should begin tapering dramatically if true. The theory is the virus hits an area and just explodes through the most vulnerable segment of the population and the folks that are left are much more difficult to infect, thus dramatically slowing the spread. There will still be outbreaks and hot spots, but on a much smaller scale. Maybe they are trying to buy enough time to see if we get over the peak and the case numbers crash.
