SARS-CoV-2 will kill a lot more people than those diseases. We are still early in the COVID-19 epidemic.

The death totals shown for those earlier epidemics are calculated by excess deaths. The COVID-19 figures that we have now are mostly confirmed COVID deaths with probable COVID deaths added for a few states. After COVID-19 is history, epidemiologists will look at excess deaths to get a truer picture.

The eventual US COVID-19 death total will dwarf those earlier diseases.

What? I would guess the death estimates on both were way undercounted.We are far better a data gathering than any of those decades and far more probably would have died had we were warehousing the elderly like we do today...its reason #1 why Covid is so deadly in the US.

The statement is true. I disagree with a collective statement of "masks, social distancing, or ruining the economy". Masks and social distancing dont have to ruin the economy. Hell... masks dont do anything negative to the economy. For some reason, masks get lumped into some conspiracy against American values. As if it is the mask that is the problem.

Look at the words. Pfizer can produce 100m vaccines. And the vaccines can be ineffectual shite. But Pfizer gets paid for them.
We have been studying coronavirus for almost 70 years and there is no beneficial vaccine.
We have been vehemently fighting the flu with vaccines for almost 30 years and those results are shitty at best.

Not everything can be solved with a vaccine (see the benefits of Tamiflu treatment versus vaccine prevention with the flu).

I dont care to argue over the specific death numbers because there are so many flaws in the data (flaws that stretch both ways... over counting and undercounting).
The reality is that covid is highly contagious. More so than a lot of us thought. For an overall population, I dont think it is that deadly at all. For a specific population, they should he scared shitless. This is a nasty bugger.

The problem isnt who it affects and who it doesnt. The problem is with how transmissible it is.

One dirty little secret in the evolutionary community is that survival and spread of the virus will eventually develop a more powerful virus (one that can potentially be dangerous outdoors as it already has been indoors).

I just hope we have games. If not, Fall and Winter will be dismal.

I know that there are bigger issues than football but I can't let myself go there.

Most of the ones we get cause a cold. Who is developing a vaccine to stop the sniffles? There's no money in that.
