It isn't politicians who are shutting down college football--it's the virus.

Before you call someone ignorant at least learn the difference between there and their.

Really, so you honestly believe they are making a decision based on health, and not the appearance of doing what they think people want to see? Come the frick on....

Well, you are ignorant...but I did mess up typing quickly. Good catch. Guess I get a 98 on my post instead of 100

So how come the Asian flu in 1957 (116,000 deaths) didn't shut down CFB or the Hong Kong flu (est 100,00 deaths) in 1968?

SARS-CoV-2 will kill a lot more people than those diseases. We are still early in the COVID-19 epidemic.

The death totals shown for those earlier epidemics are calculated by excess deaths. The COVID-19 figures that we have now are mostly confirmed COVID deaths with probable COVID deaths added for a few states. After COVID-19 is history, epidemiologists will look at excess deaths to get a truer picture.

The eventual US COVID-19 death total will dwarf those earlier diseases.

So Pfizer is lying when they say they will produce 100M vaccines by end of year and over 1B vaccines next year?

Haha. Right. We’ve been over this many times. They are calling it a COVID death if someone dies that is positive for it, without regard to their underlying condition that was already killing them.

I finally get it now. You’re an obese slob that was living in your mom’s basement with hypertension, diabetes and likely smoked Kools your whole life. You should just stay in your butt buddy bunker with djs until you die from a heart attack or lose your weight and get healthy. Best of luck to you!

What? I would guess the death estimates on both were way undercounted. We are far better a data gathering than any of those decades and far more probably would have died had we were warehousing the elderly like we do today...its reason #1 why Covid is so deadly in the US.

That public release has been met by scepticism by some who speculate that it is more about stock price than reality.

A Positive test is confirmation.

My parents are dead. I'm 71 and weigh 165 pounds. I'm in perfect health with low blood pressure and excellent cholesterol. My resting heartbeat is 55. I take no prescription drugs but smoke weed daily.

Come on.....

But still doesn’t mean it’s what killed them. What if someone with hypertension was out blowing snow off their driveway and had a heart attack? Would the cause of death be snow blowing?

Really sorry. Obviously in the anonymity of the internet, we say things to be funny and don’t really know who we are communicating with or visa versa. I say most insults on here in jest.

Good for you. Sounds like your body is in great shape for your age. Time to work on your mental health though. Your posting since COVID seems to indicate a major malfunction.

I forget who told you previously but COVID-19 kills in many different ways because it can affect every organ. A COVID victim could die from a blood clot, pneumonia, heart attack, kidney failure or a stroke.

The deaths are an indirect effect of COVID caused by the victim's faulty immune response to the virus.

think everyone can agree on a couple of things.

1. Everyone is either going to get this, or get the vaccine or die before either. It’s not going to go away by masks, social distancing, or ruining the economy.

The statement is true. I disagree with a collective statement of "masks, social distancing, or ruining the economy". Masks and social distancing dont have to ruin the economy. Hell... masks dont do anything negative to the economy. For some reason, masks get lumped into some conspiracy against American values. As if it is the mask that is the problem.
quote:

The balance between ruining the economy and overflowing hospitals has to be the correct choices being made. “Flattening the curve” was the original thought behind the quarantine and I figure enough people had it where a slow reopen was the next step. Georgia went wide open which is fine, we benefited from that.

The current spike is climbing pretty quick and instead for another closure of everything I think most officials are trying to harp on at least being cognizant of trying to wear a mask in places that request them where vulnerable people have to go shopping. If the masks help 10% and proper social distancing helps even more, that’s their way of helping to slow the spread without extreme measures. Does anyone disagree?

I agree with all of that. I think masks and distancing help more than you give credit. But that is a minor point not even worth debating. The point is that they help (dont hurt).

Look at the words. Pfizer can produce 100m vaccines. And the vaccines can be ineffectual shite. But Pfizer gets paid for them.
We have been studying coronavirus for almost 70 years and there is no beneficial vaccine.
We have been vehemently fighting the flu with vaccines for almost 30 years and those results are shitty at best.

Not everything can be solved with a vaccine (see the benefits of Tamiflu treatment versus vaccine prevention with the flu).

I dont care to argue over the specific death numbers because there are so many flaws in the data (flaws that stretch both ways... over counting and undercounting).
The reality is that covid is highly contagious. More so than a lot of us thought. For an overall population, I dont think it is that deadly at all. For a specific population, they should he scared shitless. This is a nasty bugger.

The problem isnt who it affects and who it doesnt. The problem is with how transmissible it is.

One dirty little secret in the evolutionary community is that survival and spread of the virus will eventually develop a more powerful virus (one that can potentially be dangerous outdoors as it already has been indoors).

I just hope we have games. If not, Fall and Winter will be dismal.

I know that there are bigger issues than football but I can't let myself go there.

Most of the ones we get cause a cold. Who is developing a vaccine to stop the sniffles? There's no money in that.

Goldman Sachs advised pharmaceutical firms that the money was in treating disease, not in curing disease.

You're such a drama queen. How much are people making treating a cold? Drinking water and naps is pretty low budget. We won't get into all the vaccines currently available and all the new ones coming to market. I'd hate for your crazy brain to explode.

There was some positive information relayed on Finebaum.

Oklahoma's players returned early this month. Over 2 weeks all of their 122 COVID tests were negative.

Kentucky tested 166 players and staff with no positive tests.

At one time LSU had 30 players in quarantine but now they are back at full strength.

The NFL has had 72 positive tests of players and staff but only 2.5% of tests have been positive.

Our Governor says we will have football along with our freedom if we will just wear a damn mask. When are we going to get freedom?
