SC has a pretty big commitment to FB from the school and fans don't they?

Not enough

Care too much about the rest of the department

Need to focus purely on FB and MBB

All those I named except for Tom Fanning are dead and I think they woulda stepped up had they still been around.

Point is, that you guys had a pretty rich tradition of alums stepping up and contributing to athletics but it was probably more important to the older generations of GT grads

Exactly, new money grads that are millionaires in their mid 40s to early 50s don't give a damn about CFB, especially P5 CFB and ACC FB

The Academic Side doesn't need fundraising and never has, GT has always been ranked between 25 & 40 in the USN&WR National College Rankings ever since they started doing rankings, the Academic Side will always be solid at GT, what GT needs is a dedicated push towards Revenue Sports like what Stanford & ND did in the last 10-12 years

The one major mistake GT made was bringing in that damn triple option bullshite and scaring away all the Recruits in the Metro Area and the State that do qualify academically, HS Recruits that dream of the NFL hate the fricking triple option

Yea that’s what I was getting at

You also have a high percentage of Asian grads
I wouldn’t assume they like football either

I think this is more of the Coronavirus accelerating existing trends than anything else.

A lot of folks on here, with good reason, have been saying that the current rate of spending by Athletic Departments is not sustainable. It is, if you will pardon me for saying so, a Venezuela type situation. As long as the price of oil kept going up Venezuela could continue to throw money away.

Once the price of oil inevitably dropped the entire house of cards collapsed.

Look at the great stadium arms race. Only a handful of programs fill up their mega-stadiums now. For most programs, including P5 ones, you are looking at places that used to be jam packed at 70k that look half empty at 85k. And they have a ton of debt to service for those extensions.

No, college sports isn't going the way of the Dodo bird but I think we are seeing a market correction taking place.

The Players have the leverage now, time to boycott for larger Stipends, without the 2 Revenue Sports, all these Athl Depts are up shite creek with no paddle

would be cool, but most of the players who would do that are assholes.

Would they be any less of an a-hole than the Coaches and their Agents that "negotiate" these kinds of Contracts with the P5 Universities?
