As the ashes of the Fairhope thread wind down, may be moving to Huntsville area. Any info is good. Will actually work in Decatur. Have spent a total of 48 hrs in Huntsville area. Already know that the area will be the largest city in AL by 2030.

Lived entire life south of I-10 in Baldwin County, minus 5 years at AU. One in Mobile that was technically w/in site of I-10, but still north of I-10.

May also bump as 2021 gets here.

Neighborhoods, restaurants, etc. Initial thoughts are Madison, but if any Baws know of some lake/river areas. We are only doing Zillow.

I personally have never been a fan of Huntsville. Small "city" whos economy is driven by the feds. Stay in Baldwin Co. It is an awesome place.

The economy of the Huntsville area is diversifying. Private aerospace in the form of ULA and Blue Origin have presences here now, and obviously the new Toyota-Mazda plant is bringing lots of jobs. But yes DoD and NASA basically prop up the Arsenal and Research Park and constitute a huge portion of the industry of the area.

It’s also grown quite a bit in the last decade for young professionals. They are putting a lot of money into the MidCity area between Huntsville/Madison and the entertainment district between Stovehouse/Campus 805/Lowe Mill. It is small compared to a huge metro area, but I like to think it has many of the amenities I’d want in a larger city, but it’s definitely not for everyone.

There is lots of good hiking and Smith Lake and Lake Guntersville are very pretty for going out on the water. I like living here and have been here for almost three years now.

The city itself will likely pass Birminhgam, but the Bham-Hoover metro area is almost 3 times the size of Hville metro area.

Look into Madison, would be closer to Decatur and has plenty of shopping and restaurants without being in the crazy of Huntsville

My brother lives in Decatur and he loves it. Small town feel, great place to raise a family, and with some things to do. I hate the thought of spending an hour or more in my car every day going to and from work.

If you like being outside, it’s a great area.

we've not lived there in a while, but visit often. everything about huntsville/madison is really great. except the traffic.

no, it's not atlanta bad, but when my commute to research park was only 6 miles but took 30 minutes (via 4-lane highway)... yeah.

Madison is very nice, as are some of the newer suburbs of Huntsville.

Traffic is not horrible (except US 72/University Blvd) but is getting worse. Building/expansion is outrunning infrastructure, as usual.

If you have school-age kids, Madison City schools are way ahead of Huntsville or the county schools.

I live in southern Baldwin County and I'm so sick of the tourist clogging up the roads, stores, and restaurants. We live minutes from the beach but don't even go during tourist season because the whole island is a parking lot. Also we don't have the infrastructure to handle all the people, every time we get a hard ran the sewer systems in most our municipalities overflow into the waterways due to being overwhelmed so basically you're swimming in big toilet bowl around here. It doesn't even have to be tourist season for the sewers to overflow, we are that overwhelmed already and they continue to build subdivisions without addressing the issues with the roads and sewers. I'm getting out of Baldwin county as soon as I can, we have to get the kids out of the house first. Good luck on your new adventure, like you I've lived my whole life south of I-10, maybe one day I can be like you and get the heck out of here.
