Putting on my Biologist hat for a minute here. I've taken microbiology,anatomy and physiology in my lifetime, made an A in all 3 btw. Given the untold number of viruses than can present similar symptoms and the stakes, I personally wouldn't risk the health of myself or my family until I took an antibody test. That is really the only way to know for sure. For example, where I live, only 5% of people test have a positive test. That means that of those showing symptoms 95% have something else.

There are serological tests being done that are showing ppl have antibodies to this virus and had them before this was known to be here.

It should also be noted some of those testing positive for antibodies reported they had, indeed, had symptoms of the virus before it was known to have reached the US and they hadn't traveled outside of the US and others reported they'd had zero symptoms or travel at all.

See I do travel outside the us a fair bit, not generally to any of the harder hit nations, but I do leave the us a few times each year
