When will this shite end? I remember in stillwater in 2009 the face value was $100, it was the first regular season game I'd seen in the triple digits and I was floored. Over the last ~5 years or so there's been an arms race with people charging progressively higher and higher each year. Here is a comparison of away tickets in 2017 and 2019:
UT- 105 / 110
Vandy- 65 / 115
UF- 70 or 110 / 80 or 120
AU- 120 / 140
tech- 95 / 100
For this year the WLOCP again went up $10 and it now 90 or 130. Mizz (80) and UK (90) are the lone holdouts in the dougle digit club. SC is 125 and bama checks in with the highest face value regular season ticket I've seen in my life at a whopping $175. Even the Notre Dame game, once a lifetime, never before seen in history game for the ages was less than that.
I truly wonder at what point schools are start going to taking a hit with people saying "enough is enough of this shite" and stop going up every year. It's insanity. And then they wonder why attendance is dropping..

I dont know why anyone would become a season ticket holder anymore. Now that there is no deduction it's just pissing money away for no reason.
Just for comparison I own Falcons season tickets and they average $85 a game. For professional football, not amateur kids running around slapping each others asses

The only real reasons I can see are
1) You want the continuity of having "your seat". I think this is a major factor and one I can relate to. It's nice knowing you have your own personal seat and getting to be buddies with everyone around you and kind of making a home for yourself in the stadium. Doubly so if the seats are good.
2) On a much lesser scale, I think it may be worth it if you go to literally every game. Someone who goes to 1 or 2 a year, no way in hell it'd be worth it. But if you truly go to all of them, combined with point #1 above, I can see it making sense.
Aside from that though, the average fan is muuuuuch better suited just buying on stubhub when they feel like going.

I would hate to see what you pay to watch kids slapping each others asses.

True, on both of those. If you can go to every single game, it makes sense. However, I was speaking more towards new ST owners, so number one doesn't apply as much. They havent made friends in the section or feel ownership over a particular seat. It's not worth donating $5-10k or, whatever it is right now, to get tickets the first year you apply. It's no longer deductible and I would have to over pay on hundreds of secondhand tickets to reach $10k in fees/overpayment. Then it's another, what, $500 a year every year after that to keep them?

It isn't a coincidence that as all of these fancy IPFs are built and coaches are making $6M/year and up, the ticket prices are skyrocketing. All of that stuff has to get paid for somehow.

Well... To be fair, they *are* getting paid substantially more from the TV deals. I understand raising prices, but 175 for a regular season ticket is pretty clearly highway robbery.

They will keep rising until people stop buying. They may also have data to suggest that will be the long term trend. So make hay while the sun shines. Add to reserves for when bad times hit.

Oh I understand the economics of it...

But you said it was highway robbery. If you understood the economics of it, you wouldn't say that.

Well that's just silly... You're smarter than that rig.

highway robbery - noun
1 : robbery committed on or near a public highway usually against travelers
2 : excessive profit or advantage derived from a business transaction
Just because you can get people to pay it doesn't make it not excessive profit/advantage in this scenario. That's like saying that a gas station that raises prices to $10/gallon after a hurricane is just seeing what the market will bear out.

This is elementary capitalism. If this were an NFL team I say they should charge whatever they can to maximize overall profits.
However, this is a public university. They should take into account community interest. Prices should be affordable - period.
