Maybe a once a year thing. It would be insane if most of the grove was packed. Drinking, smoking, etc. Get a big time band. Anyone share the same idea?

They've done this before. Not sure why it's not an occasional thing.

Reminds me of the old Shrimp & Beer they used to have a Sardis. That was one hell of a party.

They used to do it in my day every spring during Red and Blue week. I didn't know that they had quit.

I saw Better Than Ezra, Cowboy Mouth, and Beastie Boys in the Grove as a student for free.

Get like a Chris Stapleton type performance there and that place would be packed.

Anyone else remember when they brought Dierks Bentley in during the first week of the fall semester in 2012?

I remember that. I also remember Nelly in the spring of 2014. The night Austin Anderson hit the walkoff against Auburn on the pitch out

The pitch-out, walk-off dinger. Not something you see just everyday. Or any day.

They used to do it while I was in school. We had Blues Traveler, Dierks Bentley, Goo Goo Dolls and a few others. I didn’t know they stopped.

I'm going to guess because to keep the boomers around here happy, they have to get someone the students don't care about, but if they get anyone the students do care about, the boomers will lose their minds. See the Wiz Khalifa kerfuffle a few years ago. Just seems like a giant headache to me.

Same thing basically killed Gator Growl in the last decade. The same group that bitches about "family events" bitches when students don't want to show up in thousands to see a Bob Seeger type act.

For someone like Chris Stapleton, you're competing with Memphis, Southaven, and Tupelo as far as venues who are going to be better paydays, particularly if we're talking free shows. Additionally, you can only hit the Memphis/North MS market every 18 months to 2 years if you want to maximize revenue, so if you're the artist and you know most of your money these days comes from shows and merch sales, do you want to burn a possible 10K seater on a free show on a college campus?

That being said, if any of you are current students, go get involved with the Student Activities Association. They book the Grove. Don't think it. Be it.
