THE TALE OF THE TIGERS, and BURREAUX and O

Down deep in the Bayou where the great Red Stick stands,
There’s a hollering horde of Fanatical fans,
Not far from the banks that they call Old Man River,
They cheer on the Tigers as they punish their livers,

Where Death Valley looms like a grand coliseum,
But for Tiger Bait, well,
It’s a damn Mausoleum,
So listen real close now and lend me an ear,
And I’ll tell you a tale, almost too good to hear,

After Miles, Alleva sought Jimbo or Herman,
To coach the Old War Skule once led by T. Sherman,
But he was inept and they bamboozled him,
Tom found money in Austin, Fisher at A&M

With a heart full of pride and a binder in tow
It was quite unexpected but they hired Coach O,
And many folks scoffed at the rough spoken choice,
They made fun of his record and mocked his gruff voice,

But Coach O was undaunted ‘cause he had a plan,
Most underestimated one hell of a man,
Though it took a few years and a couple of bumps,
Ed built a machine that could unseat the gumps,

In Ohio a young man was hungry to play,
A transfer that the Buckeye team had thrown away,
With a chip on his shoulder, determined and lean,
He came down to the bayou,
Said he’d lead the team

A three star from a little town called The Plains,
Not many folks recognized Joe Burrow’s name,
But Coach O saw something that few others knew,
That Joe was the man that could lead LSU,

O and Joe kept on working, no matter how grim,
Lost to Saban at home, the refs at A&M,
But the Tigers bought in, and believed in the dream,
Though scant few could predict what occurred in ‘19,

For the last missing piece, O found down with the Saints,
And hired Joe Brady, but there still were complaints,
Negatigers still doubted, did not understand,
What he meant by “We Comin’”, til the season began,

Right out of the gate you could see things had changed,
For the Tigers a wide open offense was strange,
Some thought it was a fluke, unconvinced and perplexed,
‘Til we battled the Longhorns in Austin, TX.

Burrow’s throws were near perfect, as he found his receivers,
3rd and 17 bolstered the ranks of believers,
Changes long had been promised, but here was the proof,
“They can’t F**king stop it” Brady said in the booth,

These just weren’t the same Tigers that we’d seen before,
Joe and Clyde led the Team, scoring 40 or more,
But some still had their doubts, that we’d lose soon or later,
As the second real test came when they faced the Gators,

That night Death Valley roared as we cheered LSU,
Burrow leading the rout as they scored 42,
And the pundits took notice, for Joe’s name was mentioned,
A dark horse in the mix for the Heisman Contention,

In the meat of the schedule the Tigers they roared,
Beating State and then Auburn as the beers like rain poured,
Then came bye week, and We all knew what loomed,
8 long years of the Saban led Gumps spelling doom,

Since they Broke us on 1/9 the losses were plenty,
Near a decade of losing, at home, or in Denny,
And the unbeaten gumps, never ceased with “Roll Tide”,
Had no fear that they’d beat us the 9th time we tried,

But Coach O and the Tigers, never gave in to fear,
All year long was “We Comin’”
Now the cry was “We here”,
So into Tuscaloosa, strode Burrow and Clyde,
Backed by the Tiger Nation, Gold and Purple with pride,

In the Saturday sun, the foul gumps bore our wrath,
Saban cursed, LSU was up 20 by half,
But the Tigers all knew, that the job wasn’t done,
Moved the chains and they kneeled, 46-41

They beat Saban at home, and the cursed streak was broken,
The Gumps scream Rammer Jammer, but the Tigers had spoken,
There was some kind of magic, each Tiger well knew,
When we heard Coach O screaming,
“Roll Tide What!? F**k You!”

Few remember a season, that has been so much fun,
Tiger pride swelling chests, the west once more was won,
When Joe’s jersey said Burreaux, was a pure slice of heaven,
After stomping the Aggies, by 50-7

Then the much vaunted defense, of Georgia and Smart,
Burreaux passed to himself, as they picked it apart,
Now we’re SEC champs, Trusting in Heisman Joe,
But we aren’t finished yet, “We still comin’” says O,

Then the playoff committee, put the Tigers in first,
At The peach bowl the Sooners grand hopes would be burst,
And then the awards, nigh on endless they came,
As one after one, many Tigers were named

Getting coach of the year, were both Brady and O,
And every QB trophy went to Burreaux,
Chase and Delpit, the O-Line, and Stingley claimed others,
Many trophies were claimed by these LSU brothers

And on Saturday night, with the Heisman held high,
Joe stood undisputed, and we all knew just why,
But the tigers weren’t done, Two more games stood between,
LSU, and a National Champ’nship Team,

In a Heisman speech heartfelt, Joe spoke of his state,
And the folks who were hurting, many with empty plates,
Many eyes got all misty, then the whole Tiger nation,
Showed our thanks to his homeland, pouring in the donations,

Humble gestures they snowballed, thousands ten, then a hundred,
And they just kept on coming, roars of goodwill then thundered,
It won’t soon be forgotten, how the kind words of Joe,
Spurred the love from the Bayou, like he made our hopes Greaux.

The peach bowl it loomed, and the web swirled with rumors,
But they drowned out the noise, and prepared for the Sooners,
LSU came out swinging, and it didn’t take long,
To tell that Oklahoma, just didn’t belong,

Hurts and Co could just stare, as Joe ran up the score,
Giving points out like Oprah, with touchdowns galore,
It was over by half, as the records lay shattered,
It was clear that the Natty was what really mattered,

In the Semi that night, OSU couldn’t hack it,
Only Clemson remained, to face us in the bracket,
Dabo claimed that God’s favor made Clemson the winner,
While T Law stood there looking like Caitlyn Jenner,

Swinney sounded like Rodney,
“We get no respect”
With an unbeaten streak, that they Aimed to protect,
How the curse of 1/9, in the Superdome loomed,
And no outcome of victory could be presumed,

So they met in the dome, day 13, January,
And it didn’t take long until things looked quite hairy,
Pinned back by their punts, Joe just couldn’t get going,
And when Clemson scored first, an unease began growing,

Venables called the blitz, and punched us the mouth,
As the Negas said “told you so” all through the south,
Clemson had the momentum, and went up by 10,
It was clear that we’d have to fight hard for this win,

But Joe just shook it off, as the ice filled his veins,
We’d come too damn far to give up on this game,
First a long bomb to Chase, and then Joe ran it in,
In the 2nd the Tigers summoned the will to win,

They got back in the groove, and they knew it was fate,
Moss stood still in the endzone, as we scored 28,
But Joe took quite a hit, and he grimaced in pain,
They could not give up yet, for a whole half remained,

Clemson came back with fury, cut the lead down to 3,
But they’d not score again, as Joe made history,
Scoring time and again, as he found his receivers ,
For no doubt then remained, and we all were believers,

They continued undaunted, running Edwards-Helaire,
On the sidelines T Law just looked on in despair
And when it became clear, that they’d won the damn thing,
Joe tapped on his finger, soon he’ll tap on a ring

As the records all fell, Neck was played in the dome,
For we knew that the Natty would be coming home,
For the Purple and Gold, now the dream had come true,
Mercy knee in the red zone, 25-42,

And thus ends a dream season,
LSU undefeated,
It’s a bittersweet taste, we won’t soon see repeated,
So smoke ‘em if you got em, raise your glass in the air,
To the fans who aren’t here, to see us make it there,

We should count ourselves lucky, we who saw this great day,
And when we have grown old, and our hair has turned grey,
We can stand tall as tigers, tell the young ones we’ve seen,
Big D*ck Joe and the Tigers,
Champs of 2019

It’s no genius. Just an honest recounting of an absolute dream season that deserves it
