Titans playing "manball"...

That’s how the Patriots won it last year. That’s when I became a Patriots fan, it wasn’t about Brady anymore. Plus Sony being a Dawg had some to do with it also.

Titans are the hottest team in the NFL, and are making a strong case for manball: strong running game and great defense.

Two straight playoff wins without even 100 yards passing.

Maybe Kirby's manball is a tenable philosophy, even in an age of high-octane offense? Thoughts?

If nick saban, the best coach in the history of cfb, realized his manball offense wasn't workign anymore and needed to change that's all I need to know.

You can't take anythign away from the NFL. Every team has 53 of the best players on the planet. Everyone on every teams' roster is just abotu the best of the best, you can do things with that. You can't play manball and impose your will with tyler simmons and matt landers on the outside, a TE you never throw to, and a QB that refuses to throw over the middle. "man ball" CAN be effective in college, and we've clearly shown that in kirby's tenure because we've been very successful with it, but just look at the recent playoffs. Over the last 4 years (16 teams), only 1 team made it playing what you refer to and that was us in '17. Maybe ND last year, I don't actually know about their offense. Everyone else (the clemson/LSu/bama/OSU/OUs of the world) all run somethign entirely different. I don't think that's a coincidence.

Everyone says that UGA needs to "modernize" its offense, but it seems like that was what they were trying to do. They ran significantly more plays from the gun, particularly RPOs, back shoulder fade routes, shallow crosses, fake screen/wheel routes, etc. A lot of concepts you see in most offenses today.

In order to make an offense like this the most effective, it helps to have the right players. No offense to Landers or Simmons, but they aren't downfield threats regardless of the scheme. To me, it seemed like the coaches were compromising by trying to mesh the approach in recent seasons (i.e manball) with the spread offense.

To be fair to the Titans, you could say almost the same about the Ravens and they managed that game as well. I still think the Chiefs win, but one things for damn sure. If the Titans win, they'll have earned their seat at the table...
