separation and dislocation are 2 different things. separation involves teh collarbone and shoulder blade getting pulled apart. takes a long time to heal and is very painful. dislocation involves humerus coming out of joint and feels much better when it goes back in place. problem with dislocation is the rotator cuff is damaged. Cager is a tough guy for enduring that injury over and over..has my respect..

Interesting. I've always kind of used them interchangeably. Nice to get clarification. Thanks!

I remember getting a separation my sophomore year. Defensive end crashed down on a dive, helmet to shoulder. As someone else mentioned, there’s just little relief. Constant discomfort and pinching sensation. Hard to have full range of motion comfortably...I vaguely remember having issues heading into baseball season.

Wore shock pads underneath my pads rest of that year. But I don’t remember ever being comfortable after that. Ahhh the days. Now I separate a shoulder just looking at my kids.

Anybody on here ever have a separated shoulder? I am curious.

Have subluxed both shoulders - it ain't fun. Pain was immediate on one of them, the other was kind like Eddie Murphy's joke about getting grazed in the balls "Did I just get....is that gonna hurt? OW!!!!!"
