2012 was better than 2011.

On the field, most of the teams of today would absolutely smash championship teams a couple decades or more old. The evolution of the athlete and the game itself, even 2001 Miami would be sucking wind having to play 80-90 plays on defense against dual threat QBs and RPOs. Not to mention half their secondary would be ejected for targeting within the first quarter of play. I won’t even bother debating a team from 1971. It would be a mismatch of epic proportions.

The Wing-T is even an older offense, I think dating back to the thirties; many high schools today run some form of it, as well as some colleges. I read where Malzahn's offense at Auburn is a variation of the Wing-T.

Yes, it does mean it's not going to be effective in today's world. That's why nobody really uses it at the highest level.

Malzahn runs more of a quadruple option. But even then it was mostly about catching teams off guard with their hurry up offense and he needs a crazy good QB that could win in many systems. And now it's losing it's effectiveness now that teams have learned how to defend it.

I would take Saban's NC teams against any of those teams. 04 USC escaped a horrible UCLA team and lucked into playing one of the worst NC finalists ever (up there with 01 Nebraska and '12 ND). Miami 01 had one great OL and the rest were no names (two of them Canadians).

Incorrect. 1995 Nebraska ran their option plays out of a single back or I-formation. They did not run a Wing-T or Flexbone.

Both teams ran triple option offenses, they just did it from different formations; Nebraska ran it from the I-formation and Georgia Southern ran it from a formation similar to the wishbone. But they were both triple option offenses...

Interesting, I wasn't aware of this...I don't recall Zow or Watts running triple option plays anything like Frazier ran at Nebraska but my memory may be failing me...
