Opponent Preview: South Carolina

This is perhaps the most important game on the schedule. We get SC the week after they play Bama. That helps our cause. They return a lot of production on offense and defense. They lose a bit in their secondary, and deebo is gone. This game is pivotal in my opinion.

Anyone have any insight on Ofodile? Why he can't move past true freshmen now true sophomores. He was very well regarded coming out of HS.

Here is the thread from when his transfer was announced. LINK /
If he can provide some leadership in the room and play some special teams, so be it. He isn't good enough to get 1° or 2° reps on a P5 team.

Scales broke his foot. Had surgery. Out 6-8 weeks

TE is starting to become a MASH unit.
Scales injury is not a huge deal IF O and Parker can play. If not, we are probably starting an undersized true freshman. Yikes

That is unfortunate. When Parker started taking snaps I thought Scales might end up transferring. By all accounts he sounds like he had invested himself in the craft and in the weight room.

Hea isn’t that small. He’s listed at 6’5 220. That’s basically the same size Albert O was as a freshman. That’s ok for a guy that’s unlikely to be anything more than the 2nd or 3rd TE this season

Sure, which like I said is fine IF O and Parker are healthy. If they aren’t we have an issue

Report that Bryant has been inconsistent and has some accuracy issues through the start of fall camp. Think it’s just an issue of timing/gelling with a new set of receivers/plays? I’m glad there’s a 3 game stretch that are winnable games to start the season. It should help the offense get going before opening SEC play.

I'd like to know where the oline is getting beat and what looks they showing defensively.

That might be a bigger issue. If the new guys on the line aren't stepping up, it could make for a long year of Bryant scrambling.

It may not be that the OL is showing weaknesses, could be more about the DL being good and the coverage being good. Without watching practice there’s no way of knowing

If the interior is having issues with Elliott and Byars, iron sharpens iron. If Durant and White are having issues in the edge, that could be a problem. I would wager that it is Elliott and Byars.

I like your optimism. My concern is that it’s the alternative. We have proven Oline talent. Hearing there are issues at oline is a concern. Honestly, I don’t know what to think at this point. I hope for improvement from the Dline, and hope for consistency at the Oline. None of the reports from camp give any clarity.
I hope the 3 game stretch to open the season is helping and not crushing.

Who the hell knows. Lets get the games started and we'll find out. They will either live up to expectations or they'll fail. My guess is there will be some head scratchingly bad games and some mind blowing good games and we will end up with some record between horrible and great.

One of the players said that one day the offense dominates and the next day it's the defense.

So much of what they are doing, even in the scrimmages, is situational with little to no ability to audible out of a bad look. It's all about getting things on tape. When the dline knows what is coming and isn't worried about gap integrity, Katy bar the door. The oline on the other hand has to pick up blitzers and handle stunts/twists.
Elliott, Byars, Utsey and Whiteside may end up being the best rotation of tackles MU has had in the last 20 years. Cook, Borom, Castillo, and Simms will only benefit by having to handle them on a daily basis.
Getting whipped on the edge is a greater, albeit less likely, concern to me.
