But he was definitely not his best against LSU and Texas.
That's an understatement. He flat out sucked in those games, especially against LSU. Overthrowing Hardman on a wide open TD pass about 3 plays into that game should have foreshadowed what was coming.
I like Fromm and I think he's a good QB, but he is prone to absolute clunkers from time to time and that inconsistency has to be cleaned up if this team is going to win the SEC and be in the playoff.

How is Jake Fromm 6'2 and Maria Taylor 6'2
Posted on 8/12/19 at 3:01 pm to DawgRff
Maria is in the foreground with a wide angle lens to limit the perceived distance. And wearing 4 inch heels.

She's a bit closer to the camera than he is, and she may also be wearing heels. But they look similar in size compared to where the background lines up on their shoulders and head.

Actually the correlation on returning starts matter more on the outside than o-line according to Bill Connelly formerly of SB nation.
Returning production

The higher the number, the more likely returning production in these areas is to coincide with strong offense:
Receiving yards correlation: 0.324
Passing yards correlation: 0.234
Rushing yards correlation: 0.168
Offensive line starts correlation: 0.153

I think he's going to do much better this year. It wasn't simply the direct impact to his playing time (and possible stats) that was impacted, either. The fact that he was being pulled at seemingly random times for most of the season had to have thrown off his rhythm, and having to share reps with the 1's in practice didn't do him favors, either. Having to look over his shoulder at every moment probably both motivated him to work harder (not that he needs help in that area) but also added a bit of stress.
I think being the clear-cut leader and field general for the season will allow him to get the quality reps and practice he needs as well as the confidence to go out and sling it without worrying about being pulled at a moment's notice if he makes a mistake that he will be harder on himself than any coach would be.
That deal did work with Florida in 2006, but Leak was out soon and Tebow knew he would be taking the wheel the next three years.
But it did not work for us and I hope Kirby learns from it. In the end, Fields is gone, just as if he'd only gotten in games at garbage time.

Honestly, I think fields may have been more efficient in the red zone than fromm. That is with fewer reps. And fromm just seemed slightly off last season (hardman struggled getting his feet down or throws often seemed a hair too high).
I expect a noticeable bump in Fromm's numbers. 2+ extra series per game will show on the stat sheet for him personally. Maybe an extra 50 ypg. Maybe an extra 5+ TDs on the year.

thank you, someone else is saying it. Fromm was bailed out by two first round backs and a first round tackle his freshman season and then lost his toughest three games his sophomore season.

He really couldn't have played much better, hardly anyone could, versus Bama last year.
LSU stunk for sure. Texas? I don't think anyone on the whole team even cared.
As far as 2017. guy was a freshman and made huge plays on one of the biggest late game drives in UGA history (Rose Bowl).

Depending how far we go, I think he has an excellent shot at breaking Murray's single season TD record (36).
There's not a lot of possessions to go on, but Fields wasn't exactly great when he got the chance in the RZ against the better competition. Auburn, if I'm remembering correctly, was a colossal failure as he took a huge sack for almost a 20 yard loss.

I agree.

He definitely played like a freshman last season. But he was also 3rd on the team in rushing TDs (only 3 behind holyfield). Our best "pound it in" tailback option was brian therrien last year. Think about that. Fields gave us a big body in goalline that was capable of forcing it in. When we got that tight with regards to space for the receivers, we were better running it in than throwing last year.

Fromm should have time to throw. If the receivers, inexperienced as they are, run their routes(mostly) and catch the ball the passing game will be ok, imo.
