Yesterday's Scrimmage

I just got an email blast from Ole Miss on 247 sports. A few things to note from yesterday’s scrimmage:
1) Sanogo said the defense needs to be in better shape.
That is not good with two and a half weeks to go. It was only a 100 play scrimmage with the first, second, and third teams getting equal reps. This scares me for potential injuries. Based on last year, there was a clear talent gap with the Ole Miss defense as compared with our SEC brethren. One thing that that requires zero talent is conditioning.
2) Corral was under the impression that the defense “won” the scrimmage.
Granted, it is the first scrimmage so this doesn’t mean a whole lot. I hope this is a sign of the defense improving.
3) No major injuries except for TF QB Kinkead Dent suffering a concussion.
Good news.

We just need a few more "Get Better Mondays" to fix it.

Our conditioning on both sides of the ball was bad last year, but particularly bad on defense. How did this not get improved over the past year?

It did context is everything. He said we need to be in better shape but we aren’t far from it.

I saw that, but the mere fact he said anything scares me.
I hope we are 2 1/2 weeks close to being ready...

What I am worried about is the O line. Especially with Rich Rods video yesterday

We need to have a good back up QB.

Surely we will be rotating three deep as this is a talented SEC defense.
*ducks*

A couple things here:
1. I don't mind hearing this simply because as the leader of this defense that was historically bad last year, he doesn't need to come as cocky. It's simply a line to give media, similar too "we have to get better at x, y, or z" which you hear everybody say all the time. Heck Saban says it
2. Being "in shape" and being "in game shape" are two different things and teams often look more winded in their first couple of live action scrimmages and even sometimes in the first couple games.
3. If the worst thing he said was conditioning related then I'm happy with that because conditioning can be fixed pretty dang quick. Schemes and such can't.
4. the heat index was dang 105 lol

I think we can easily read way too much into one of our players saying we need to be in better shape. I thought it was a very modest and diplomatic response to the question quite honestly.

So long story short our defense sucks and they beat our offense in a scrimmage?

Conditioning is the foundation of having a winning gamelan. If that's an issue, when it's never been voiced as one in the past, we are in deep shite

I understand that, however one player giving an obligatory critique isn't something to worry about. Also it is impossible to be in live action game shape until after they've run through these scrimmages. Do you not think Mac and Rich Rod know whether or not its an issue? Yeah if we've got guy rolled up cramping in the 3rd quarter against Memphis I'll be concerned but having the leader of the defense simply say we need to be in better shape after a scrimmage isn't really raising any red flags in my book.

Still have the same shitty strength coach as years pay I believe.

Where have you been the last 6 years? People have been complaining about conditioning for a looong time. We will see a good number of injuries in the first 3 weeks and then our beat writers will blow the dust off of that "banged up" line.

Who are most of you people?

Mostly Russian bots trying to get Luke re-elected.

You simply aren't reporting this right. He was talking about better conditioning to go against HURRY UP OFFENSE. RR threw the hurry up offended on the defense and he didn't think they were in the best shape to stop a hurry up offense. That's a completely different animal. Plus it was hot as fish grease.
There is no workout Jaylen Jones could have done to prevent his knee injury. There is no offseason workout to prevent concussions. Its a violent sport. Injuries will happen no matter how much you work on it.

Yeah that's how I read his video, meaning we are working on a known problem from last year. Actually he is saying we are gong to be much more conditioned. Also I found today's videos very interesting in that one of the interviewees mentioned that the incoming freshman are learning that in the SEC you can't take any plays off! Full speed or out! That was great to hear.
