I think that we're over thinking the DJ. I'm sure we'll here it in pregame but during the actual game it'll just be bits and pieces I think.

I read a Letter to the Editor article in The State where some guy was saying that the DJ should play beach/shag music in the stadium.

I was almost in tears from laughing so hard at that terrible suggestion.

Who's going to get pumped for that? The kickers?

I honestly don't care about the fans taste, I'm for whatever the players hear to pump them up.

Kind of like the Cam Newton UA commercial, if it pumps them up to make them play better, play what the majority of them wanna hear.

SiriusXM had a "Carolina Shag" channel on all summer and I programmed it as one of my presets....

...And after about a week, I don't think I stopped on it again the rest of the summer. Don't get me wrong, I love that kind of music (even though I've never "mastered" the shag), but it ain't what you need at a football.

As I said last week, we need things that appeal to a broad spectrum. I still stand by that. WAY back in the day, when all DJ's had at their disposal was wax records, I experimented with DJ'ing a little bit. I even did a little bit with CD's and had two CD players with controllable speed rates so you could beat match songs. I'll say it's much, much easier on a real turntable. With all of the electronic tools they have at their disposal, modern DJ have it made.

Anyway, I'll still plant my flag on 90's hip hop instrumental type stuff for the reasons I stated last week, Mass appeal. They're 60's and 70's music with a good beat underneath. And they've been around long enough that even folks that are old and aren't hip (like me) know the tunes and beats. Even I have a hard time biting on modern Hip-hop mainly because they drop too many &$@%@- Ho's and N words. That's just going to turn a lot of people off right out of the gate (which is why said Instrumental above.)

A couple of examples:

Wu Tang -C.R.E.A.M. The hook is from The Charmels's "As Long as I've Got You"

The melody in Tupac's - California love is a lifted from Joe Cockers "Woman to Woman"

But the thing is, IF the DJ is REALLY good, he/she can mix things in a way to get both classic rock, rap and new school beat all together. Check the example below which (at the point I've cued up) is Vanilla Ice mashed up with The Who's Baba O'riley. FWIW, Just after this he murders Blur's Song 2 (a crash break) and kinda kills the whole mix for me. lol. But again, I'm just using it as an example of how a good DJ can blend genres together and have it appeal to many folks at the same time. That's why I have it linked here.

Krafty Kuts (this dude is a DJ genius) is another example, see how he drops Earth Wind and Fire's "lets grove tonight" into this mix. (The mix is from 2005 (which means it's very much in the drum and bass style), but was the best example of what I was talking about in his work that I could find.)

DJ Krafty kuts (Essential mix)

Of course there will always be those that don't like the idea of a DJ no matter what and will never be happy. I get it, I really do. One of my favorite sayings of all time is "Taste in music is subjective" and no one song will ever please anyone.

This is the dude we need to get...

DJ Skratch Bastid (NSFW Audio) <--- Use headphones if at work.

His set is a bit reggae heavy at the beginning, but on fire at the end...

A couple more...
