I thought this was interesting. Not sports related.

The University of Florida has big plans.
The university’s capital improvement plans include a new honors college, athletic dorms, a new student health facility, academic buildings, and a landscaping plan that would change the face of the university.
The plans coincide with UF’s goal to become top-5 public university. A top-5 university has top-5 facilities and a top-5 campus, according to UF administrators. But getting there will be costly.
The preliminary cost to transform the university, in terms of facilities and campus look and feel, to UF’s top-5 standards is projected at about $2.2 billion over five to 10 years.

Much needed in some areas.

The state needs to give less money to paper mills like UCF and more money towards research institutions like UF. It'll raise the funding for other state schools in the long run when more businesses and higher quality students flock to Florida. No reason we shouldn't be top 5 already, but we're on the way up. I am proud to be a Florida grad.

Back in the day, Florida was pushing to be the "Flagship" university in the public school system, as this designation would allow us to do something or another (I can't remember what). But all the other public schools ganged up against us because it would have given UF way more resources from the Feds and we would have been so far out in front of all the other public schools. I think it was Marshall Criser who was prez and he said it really didn't matter that UF would always be out front anyway.
