Teams don't lose 5 guys that could have been starting. We have zero " true" starters available.

nobody saw our offense being this bad and health has not been an issue for position players outside of Eyster missing a few games to add to his strikeout totals.
12 of 21 SEC games USC has scored 3 or fewer runs and been shut out twice. USC is 2-10 in those games.
Gamecocks have 10 SEC loses by 3 or fewer runs. 7 of those 10 losses were games the opponent scored 6 or fewer runs.
2-4 UGA
3-6 @TN - lost series 1-2
2-4 AUB - lost series 1-2
1-4 @AL - lost series 1-2
4-6 @UF - lost series 1-2
3-6 TAM - lost series 1-2
2-5 @MO
the UF walk-off loss is the only game where Carolina had the lead in the 7th inning or later. to me, the lack of offense has hurt USC more in those five "1-2" series losses than pitching.

This is just a thought, but did Kingston bring in the right guys this year?
Look past versions of the Gamecocks had guys, come in as freshmen or from juco and make immediate impacts, you could see they were going to be major contributors over the years. Jackie Bradley, Grayson Greiner, Justin Smoak, Christian Walker, the list goes on.
None of the newcomers for this year seem like they are going to be the kinds of guys that can take teams to Omaha.
Teams sign juco pitchers every year to be quality starters. We got Reid Morgan.
Anyone think Sightler will ever be a player? Right now he looks like the kind of player who gets recruited over. And if he actually could pitch, wouldn't they have put him on the mound, this season of all seasons?
Some of these guys seem like they could be ok starting positional players down the road like Eyster, Jenkins, and Allen. But the kind of guys who can get you to Omaha?
And I've heard a lot about these freshmen pitchers. We'll see, but every year teams sign freshmen that wind up having big seasons. Not these guys.
None of them really seem like they are getting better as the season goes on, either. I think that is a bad sign. A really bad one.

He still hasn’t been able to answer your question about the terrible hitting.

Our hitting sucks but we would have won alot more games if our pitching staff was healthy. Doesn't matter if we score 10 runs if our pitching can't hold the score. Y'all act like we should have recruited 9 cy young award pitchers.
Everyone gave Muschamp's defense a pass last year due to injuries but continually to bitch about kingston's team and overlook the injuries. The mans first year he had us in a super regional.
I honestly can't believe we are having this debate when the major reasoning for our poor season is so obvious.

I have done my best to give us hope. Unfortunately Kingston and company aren't giving me much to work with. Hitting and fielding can't be blamed on injured pitchers. I didn't expect kingston's recruiting to be up to par, due to just coming in, but he obviously missed on evaluations. Can we just forfeit the rest of the season?

Kind of curious as to what you think of the everyday players Kingston has brought in. I'm more optimistic about these freshman pitchers than any of the everyday players.
Just doesn't seem like any of them will ever develop into quality starters on a CWS team.

I'm actually concerned with the coaching our pitchers are receiving. We don't throw strikes and it's not even close. We have talent but thats based off of high school. 7 pitchers are injured. I'm starting to think we need a change with our pitching coach. On offense it's absolutely ridiculous to always swing for the fences. Kingston has alot of work to do this off season.

Berryhill is SEC caliber. Callil is the only player to raise his BA in SEC play. Tolbert/Stokes combined for 11 E at SS last season. Callil has 5 so far and has made some amazing plays at 6'4". I like Allen, but he's passed Eyster 49/46 for team lead in times K'd - though has played 6 more games.
Carolina had some established/experienced guys last year. I don't think many fans expected equal or better production early on from the new blood - not true the 3 returning JRs for their SR season.
2018 Stats vs 2019 Stats
C - Taylor for Berryhill - noticeable difference - Hunter had a great final season
1B Stokes for Cullen - Madison had a great SR year - Cullen, well, the curious case of Chris Cullen
2B Row for Campbell - this has been the biggest dropoff in offensive production
SS Tolbert for Callil - surprising close stats in SEC play
3B Bride for Olson - significant drop offensively too
LF Cortes for Allen - no contest here
CF Hopkins - just puzzling - .345/15 SEC games last year / .205 in 24 so far this season
RF Olson for Eyster - also a decline
Taylor, Tolbert & Bride kept everyone's nose to the grind in the dugout last year. we haven't seen that from any of the 3 SRs this season. they've been consumed with their own struggles - or in Cullen's case, his ceiling.

Assuming we finish at 28 wins this was our first sub 30-win season since 1996 - only our 2nd since 1973 if Wiki is to be believed. Truly a historical low. We had at least 40 wins every year from 1998-2014.

Kingston got 2 nice grad transfers this week. Dallas Beaver/UCF(Kissimmee FL) & Bryant Bowen/Southern Miss(Shreveport LA). Beaver is 6'2"/219 and Bowen 5'11"/208 ...and both play multiple positions including Catcher.
Bowen has 129 hits in 125 career games played at USM - 71 hits/51 rbi in 54 games in 2019.
