Dead last in Opportunity, Crime & Corrections, and Natural Environment.

Bottom 7 states in every other category (bottom 5 except for 43rd in Fiscal Stability)

It means states that have to suck on the federal government's teat rank lower. It's why Texas is 12 - they put more money into the US than they take away.

They have Texas listed at 38th and Arkansas at 45th while having Nebraska at 9th and Maryland at 6th. I dont know their exact formula but i would certainly rather live in Texas or Arkansas than Maryland or Nebraska.

Maryland gets a massive boost in opportunity (and that's not wrong, as in my job sector I am constantly seeing postings in the area) and health care.

Nebraska gets huge boosts in fiscal stability, infrastructure, and education.

Texas is big in economy and fiscal stability, but suffers in other areas.

Arkansas suffers in Health Care (49th), Infrastructure (47th) and Crime and Corrections (47th).

I briefly worked in the corrections system in Oklahoma (42nd); I'd hate to see what states that rank below them is like.

Lived all over Texas when young - some nice parts, some not so nice parts. I just hate the attitude of Texans who think they are different and special

DFW area just sucks - traffic is abominable. Only decent area is up by Frisco
Austin used to be nice, but not so much anymore. North of Austin is still pretty nice, though again traffic is terrible
North part of San Antonio is pretty nice, great Mexican food when visit for work
Houston is simply miserable weather, especially during the Summer
Galveston at least had a breeze, but haven't been back in 20 years
Used to love South Texas before weather wiped it out
The whole West Texas scene is terrible - not one decent city out there

I'm a fan of East Texas, though.

Fair enough, i live in Dallas at the moment but work in Carrollton, i definitely like the northside of the metroplex much better. I enjoy San Antonio, I got here to late for austin to ever be anything i would enjoy. Houston blows, galveston has a muddy beach. I like parts of central texas. Possum Kingdom and brownwood both have fun lakes to visit. If the drive doesnt drive me insane im hoping to buy a house farther north and make a good chunk of money on it if the city keeps growing that way. We shall see. I figured Colorado was getting really pricey as far as cost of living goes but there is no doubt it provides alot of great natural beauty and things to do you cant get in alot of places.

Colorado is pretty expensive. I've lived in VA, CA, and WA at one time or another though, and it is definitely cheaper than all of those

It's all relative. My children make ends meet in CO, and in some of the more expensive areas too like Ft Collins and Durango.

Of the top 10, would definitely agree with WA, NH, VT, MN, and CO. WA is amazing, but if you think CO is expensive got some news for you. Seattle is Canada prices
