Kinda sucks but I guess the apartments are kind of needed.

You know how many apartments are within 10 freaking miles of the campus?

Its insane. I haven't been back to campus since I graduated, but I imagine that place looks a lot different.

Sad to see The Swamp is getting demolished.

I thought UF was increasing enrollment to an additional 8,500 within 10 years.

There is a lot of construction going on in that area. It is going to look completely different.

Very annoyed with these new Giant apartment things. The one they built on 13th and University looks bad, doesn't fit with the surrounding area, and is a terribly designed building with major issues already two years in.

I don't like it.

Add in the Swamp has burgers. Any clue where they are moving too?

Have you seen the long-term plans that UF has for that side of university? Literally want apartments/new dorms in place of everything from 13th to the Jewish Place. That means ridding of midtown altogether and the fraternities that are there.

Sadly, I think they’ll eventually get their way.

I've heard they are really pushing online only students now didn't hear about the increased on campus enrollment but would make sense as to why they keep building more apartments near campus...

Also the Standard is awful from what I've heard.

is this place an institution down there?

why the hell not build the apartments in such a way where the bar is able to be built in? - collect rent forever & give people more of a reason to move in...

or is it too low end of a place to be in a nice apartment complex???

Mid town has multi level businesses which works pretty well. Bars on top of bars basically. The restaurant mentioned here is multi levels and is really cool. The previously built one near has restaurants and a target built into it, but the apartments are an eye sore and were quickly built and are not made well.

I see this in traveling around. When they do many of these places they are out of state firms that have the full corporate mentality. If the put amenities back it will be corporate like Starbucks, Target, and Barnes & Noble.

As an aside, any old Gators on here remember the Castaways bar? it was just north of all the high society joints of North Beach (Bal Harbor) and just south of the old carpet joints around Hollywood (the precursor to Vegas). They just don't make bars like that anymore. A real American mixing pot of celebrities and average joes. Nobody had security and entourages back then and everybody just got along.
