Regarding Stidham...
quote:
He’s a smart player who takes care of the football with pretty good arm strength. He’s fairly athletic, though not a running quarterback, but he has decent movement skills
quote:
Auburn’s offensive scheme might not have been the best fit for Stidham’s strengths and the Patriots had taken that into consideration.

What’s interesting about it? Sounds like Nick Caserio posts here

The "takes care of the ball" comment was surprising.

It's almost as if only throwing screen passes is a bad idea.

Stidham was definitely misused here and I’m not sure how anyone could say otherwise. Some of it was stidham not playing that well, but the pairing of Gus and Stid was doomed to fail before it started.

He certainly didn’t take care of it against Tennessee

Does anybody beside me remember how he played when our NFL RB and O line was clicking? He played fine against quality competition, not just Sean White v. Arkansas competition. The marriage was fine for a little while.

Stidham dismantled an Alabama defense in JHS when we called good plays and protected the pocket.
The Patriots are dead on.

He played fine yea, but he never realized his full potential. I hate it for him because he has a shite ton of talent. Should have went to somewhere like OK State

If you look at 2017 that's a hard argument. He was used effectively when he finally played football. He was the issue against Clemson and he allowed the comeback vs LSU by choosing to give a read option 17 times in a row to KJ when LSU was keying on KJ. He also was the main issue against UCF. In a 10-4 season that could have been 13-1 that's a big deal. Otherwise his play and stats were outstanding.
Last season most of the issues were systematic, but it started with his inability to lead a young O.

Half his sacks came as a result of him finding a defensive player to run into. The guy has plenty of talent but cant operate in a pocket. IDK how that works for a pocket passer. He seemed to develop that over time so maybe it was just no confidence in our kindergarten level passing game. He definitely seemed to land in the perfect spot to get the most out of his ability though. Good luck to him. I hope he balls out.

Stidham fumbled in the red zone 4 straight games or so, infuriating

Did Nick Caserolle actually watch the games?... Stidham fumbled pretty much every game.

Pissed me off he looked for the deep ball every play.

Auburn isn’t paying Gus to develop players for the NFL
