They looked very good Sat against a pretty weak NE team. Won 2-0 but had several other great chances - seriously could have easily been 4 or 5 goals for United in this one. Perhaps the new team/coach are starting to gel a bit after actually getting some practice time together? We shall see. For now enjoy this second goal from Barco from Saturday:

Barco was great. Was kind of interested to see how Nagbe was going to do as a 10, but Remedi's concussion quickly changed those plans.

It is still a little troublesome for me that DeBoer didn’t start Barco. NE is tailor made for his style to dominate. It’s only because Remedi got hurt in the first minute that we even saw Barco in the first half of this game.

ATL United on a nice little two game win streak. Beat two team that aren't playing well, but points are points.

Last night they probably looked the best they have since the home game against Herdiano back in February. Barco has really been the catalyst - and he is about to be gone for a month to play with the Argentina U20 national team. Hopefully Pity Martinez will choose right now to step it up as a playmaker in Barco's absence.

Although there clearly are a handful of teams that look superior to Atlanta right now, still have hope that this team finds the right mix, makes the playoff and then you never know.

This week two home games against Toronto (playing really well) and Orlando (been kind of middle of the road).

Won 3 out of 4, and really deserved to win the game they lost.

Just traded for Meram since Barco will be gone for 7 games.

Seems like it might be difficult to get him plugged in that quickly but sure doesn't hurt to have another attacking player for depth. Read that this move may also be in anticipation of Joseph Martinez and Villalba possibly being gone for a month in June for the Copa America.

lol, could you imagine if baseball held the WBC during the summer and players left their club for a month to go play?

Unsurprisingly, he's not in the 18 tonight, but I wouldn't be shocked if he makes the bench on Sunday.

2 more players from ATL UTD 2 are going to the U20 WC. Guillermo Benitez (Panama) and Wesly Decas (Honduras). There's a chance that Carleton could make the US squad as well.

Honest question, when they leave, do they get paid? By whom?

Was talking about this last night. The example I used was Kyrie leaving the Celtics for an international basketball tourny, or Crosby leaving the Pens to play in the Olympics.

I mean, I think it's happened in the past and very nearly happened in 2018.

They looked really good last night. Pity played his best game for ATL. It's possible they are finally getting comfortable with what de Boer wants to do. Instead of thinking and hesitating they are moving quickly and with purpose.

Heard that 4 straight shutout victories is an MLS record. Today was good. Pity got his 1st goal. The defense had a couple of lapses and it was a game that Guzan had to step up and he did with some nice saves. The possession and attack for Atl was good, not their best of season but they created good chances. Villalba can still be a bull in a china closet at times but damn if he isn’t fast and a lot for the defense to handle coming down the side - he was constant pressure and energy today.

They clearly ran out of gas early in the 2nd half. Will need to make so changes to the line up for Wednesday to get some fresh legs in. Made some sloppy passes in the defensive third that almost buried us. Robinson made some great plays to put out fires. Would not be shocked to see him get a call up in the near future. Escobar has been getting better every game.

I've seen a little bit of total football in how we play. Not a lot of forwards swapping with defenders, but there's a lot of fluidity between the lines. Front 4 may all switch positions, LOG making runs through the midfield, Gressel and Escobar switching for minutes at a time, etc.

Well it looks like Pity didn't get called up for the Copa America. However, I think we're still likely to lose Josef and Tito. Could potentially lose Guzan, Nagbe, and Robinson for the Gold Cup.

Going to find out what kind of depth we have. Looks like it might start tonight too. SBNation put out their projected starting lineup for tonight - who is this team?:

Guzan
Shea, Pogba, Robinson, Gallagher
Carleton, Pereira, Larentowicz
Meram, Martinez, Williams

That's... different. I guess the idea is to pick this game to rest the majority of the starters instead of perhaps trying to rotate a couple of guys at a time off through this compacted part of the schedule. I guess if you are going to go with the B team lineup you'd rather do it against Vancouver than NYRB coming up next.

ETA: The more I look at that lineup the more I don't get that prediction. I could see 2-3 new faces but I would be surprised to have essentially 6 guys who haven't played much all in the starting lineup together.
