Any of y'all near Chucktown?

Being reported by multiple ppl from Summerville, Monks Corner, N. Charleston, Kiawah Island and more that they felt what seemed to be an earthquake. Reports of the typical rumbling noise and significant shaking of houses and such.
Some speculation that it was some weird form of a sonic boom due to weather conditions but it definitely showed up on the Summerville seismograph.

I have a brother and sister in monks corner and they haven't heard anything.

I think they decided it was a sonic boom that was affected by some odd weather set up off shore. (Some unusual front formation or something like that) Said it caused a delayed sonic boom and intensified the normal effects from it.

I dunno about Charleston, but we've had a little earthquake swarm here the past few days. STONGLY felt the ones on Friday AM.

We have a bunch here where I live. See the cluster on the Georgia/SC border in the southern part of the state? That's where I'm at. There's a shallow fault line under us. And a plant that produces plutonium within 2 miles of here.

It was a sonic boom from one of the several F-18s flying around all day yesterday.
I’m a geologist, and talked to my old geophysics professor at CofC today. He looked at the seismometer and a microbarometer for the same event. There was a large disturbance in the air column, which would be very atypical for an earthquake that small.

Figured that's what it was. A lot of ppl were commenting that they usually warn citizens when sonic booms might occur and that's where the confusion came in. And the size of the area that it was heard seemed to surprise them.

One thing that people forget about earthquakes is that the Richter scale is logarithmic. That is, for every whole number increase, the energy released by the quake increases by a magnitude of 10. So a 5 is 10 times more powerful than a 4 and 100 times more powerful than a 3...

It’s a very misinformed statement that continually gets run up the flagpole by people who have some vested interest in fearmongering.
