I actually don't care. If Mike is fired, we'll just hire someone even less competent, because that's what we do nowadays with men's basketball. The PTBs don't seem to care.

The exact reason we hired Morris and won't fire Mike

Chad Morris is .500 in conference play in his 8th season, should he be fired?

Interesting question. In football, our fans would probably say "the guy before left the cupboard bare, so he needs at least 8 years to build a foundation. Expect a full 30 year rebuild and give him patience". Apparently every coach leaves the cupboard so bare a "full rebuild" is needed

Also if the team is young, it's an automatic pass regardless of record. No blame or aspersions will ever be cast for a lack of prior planning by million-dollar coaching personnel

I counter the “we are young” argument with “last year was our most experienced team in Mike’s tenure and was 1 and done in the NCAAT”.

I've done some thinking about what I expect from our basketball program. Some here have mentioned that Sweet 16's are not a good indicator because the tournament is a crap shoot. I've decided to play along with this theory.

My new expectations for our program: A 4 seed or lower should be achieved once every 3 years. In addition, I will give the coach some leeway, in that, if we arrive in the tournament as a 5 or higher seed and pull off an upset or two to make it to the Sweet 16, that will count in my mind as making it to the tourney as a 4 or lower seed.

In Nolan's 16 years, we were a 4 seed or lower 7 times. We made it to the Sweet 16 as a higher seed once (1996 as a 12 seed). This would mean that, according to my methodology, we had a successful season essentially every other year with Nolan. I do not feel once every 3 years is too much to ask.

Rebuttals from our resident Mikers?

While I agree the sweet 16 is a crap shoot you increase your odds tremendously if you get in as a lower seed. It seems we always get in as a 7 through 10 which means a 1 or 2 matchup in the second game. Hell even getting up to the 5 seed means a pretty even matchup with a 4 seed. Mike has never even gotten us that high has he? That’s part of what infuriates me, even when we get in it’s a shitty at large seed, first game is a coin flip then second game is a powerhouse.

Sweet 16 teams typically have 2 or 3 guards handling the ball, don’t turn it over and Mike’s entire system is reliant on turnovers.

Second half of the second half at SCAR showed it for the 1,000th time.

Guards who take care of the ball he has no answers.

We were a 5th seed in 2015, lost to the 4th seed North Carolina in the 2nd round.

Thanks, forgot it was that high. Would still rather take my chances as a 4 or 5 seed than a 7 or 10.

Before the tournament last year, here are the odds by seed for some of those positions to reach the S16

4th seed-47%

5th seed-32.6%

7th seed-18.9%

8th seed-9.8%

9th seed-3.8%

10th seed-18.3%
