After conducting interviews and research using in-house staff, the university inked a $238,000 contract with an Ohio-based branding and marketing company called Ologie. The new set of logos, which included slight tweaks to the formal and marketing logos, cost about $25,000 in all and represented a small portion of the contract.

That doesn't seem like a lot at all.
I would assume if we were doing some massive re brand like this we'd be spending a lot more.

quote:it's truly astounding the lengths those who are supposed to be caretakers of our University will go to completely screw up something that really isn't that complicated. that firm's own brand - uses 'orange' as it's sole color ...and it's in Ohio.

that's 2 strikes out of the gate that should have led the communications dept or whoever to seek other counsel/guidance in this endeavor.
hell, the biggest accomplishment in all of this is that the 'rebranding' has been the best kept secret ever in our state. who the hell knew this was even occurring outside of the communications dept...?
UofSC has been used on twitter for years and it should have remained that way.
lastly, removing the 1801 from the Horseshoe logo is just insult to injury. I long ago grew tired of trying to convince a few people in Columbia that the Horseshoe logo would make great Alumni decal with whatever year you graduated being placed where 1801 appears.
we all are sick of seeing the damn ring decal Pickens uses with the corresponding year. but everyone knows what is it. nahhhh, we don't need anything unique for Gamecock graduates.

That's exactly what we do with our Class in Charleston.

yes - and they look great all around here. I should've used that as an example instead of the orange circus' copycat version of El Cid's ring decal.

Don’t we use this on the rings?
I think this is pretty bad arse too

big fan of USC's crest too. timeless.
the crest is very similar to our rings. Lady Liberty & Minerva both appear. the University Seal is also included above them.
The University of South Carolina seal quotes the Latin poet Ovid. “Emollit Mores Nec Sinit Esse Feros” which translates to “Learning humanizes character and does not permit it to be cruel.” Beneath the motto stands the figures of Liberty and Minerva, the goddess of Wisdom. Though clothed for battle, they hold their weapons at rest and shake hands.
I'll go to my grave convinced USC has forfeited many years of branding by not using this logo
for graduates with their years - and for fans/boosters who contribute a helluva lot of $$$ even if they're not Alum - with just using the 1801.
branding is as simple as using any logo - and over time it will become synonymous with the entity for which it represents. the communications dept way overthought this - and over spent. national surveys be damned.
people know South Carolina and the University of South Carolina because they visit here. they know our state flag and the Palmetto. USC should use it at every opportunity. it's not difficult. less is more in effective branding. clean/clear/concise...and repetitive.
think about our basketball jerseys for a minute - and the 'machine' font that painfully is used across all sports. now imagine that same jersey using the Block C/Gamecock as the letter "C" in "CAROLINA". there is no confusing that with the school in the Old North State.
anyways - we have one of the most unique mascots in all of sports. we have a tourism industry that brings millions here to SC each year. we have never effectively marketed ourselves to the willing audience that presents itself to us. it's sad.

As long as we keep the block C in athletics we are fine.
We should just use that.
I don’t understand why we use the damn U of SC monogram.
Just make it a block C
Pretty much every other school just uses their athletics logo more
