Did anybody in central Alabama hear the loud boom noise at 1:49 this afternoon? James Spann is calling it the “Bama Boom”, but isn’t sure what caused it.

It shook my house a bit. Made some stuff rattle. Wasn't sure what was going on.

I thought I read an item that Maxwell AFB said it was a sonic boom from a training excersize

Hasn't been confirmed. Besides, unless you're over desert, what kind of aircraft sonic boom can be felt across about twelve counties?

The one where the aircraft flies across twelve counties? A plane traveling faster than the speed of sound would cross twelve counties pretty quickly.

I suppose. Roughly from Fayette to Jacksonville, maybe a little further. So, 150 miles give or take.

SoS is approx. 760 mph, so it'd take it roughly 12 minutes to cover 150 miles.
