With Garland and Cook suspended indefinitely, the Hogs are now down 2 players. The staff is still optimistic about Garland getting cleared medically, but word is going around that they still recruiting for 3 more spots and not two. So, we will see. Garland's condition is that he has a heart murmur and it runs in the family. Let's hope he can get cleared soon and be able to suit up. The kid has been working his arse off and deserves it.

Better to be absolutely sure he is fine. I'm reminded of Maggie Dixon, the women's coach at Army, a few years back that was young and really on the cusp of great things... and died in her friend's living room after a massive heart attack.

I hope he plays and he's good to go. But I'd rather bench him for a season to be on the safe side.

Khalil Garland of Little Rock Parkview dunks during the All-Metro Classic on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, in Little Rock.
FAYETTEVILLE — Highly touted freshman guard Khalil Garland has not been cleared for full participation "due to an ongoing health matter," Arkansas coach Mike Anderson announced in a statement Monday.
"He will continue to get treatment for this condition and the medical staff is optimistic that he will be cleared to return to full participation at a later date," Anderson said.
The undisclosed medical issue arose when Garland went through his physical shortly after arriving on campus, sources told WholeHogSports. He underwent further testing this summer, but the issue has yet to be resolved.
Garland, a Little Rock native who played at Parkview High School, was ranked the No. 58 player nationally in the class of 2017 by ESPN. He is one of four true freshmen on the roster.

Chesh... I agree, I have definitely seen a report elsewhere that it had been resolved and he was released to full participation.

WTH? are we both going nuts?

yet vengeance is correct in one thing. He was cleared, or so the media reported it.

OK, found one... From June I think

Another issue arose for freshman guard Khalil Garland during his reporting to campus physical. Reports said Garland had an issue with his heart, possibly a heart murmur. Mike Anderson says all is good and Khalil is cleared and practicing with the Hogs.

"Guys coming to this level here they have never had the chance to really go through the strenuous, the activity that we put these guys through. So we want to make sure they are, once they do come up here that they are ready to go through the vigorous workouts. So that is what it is with Khalil. Just precaution that's all."
With Macon and Barford returning coach Anderson feels good about his team and the direction his program is headed with another trip to the NCAA Tournament a goal for his team in 2017-18.

From media day today

Arkansas freshman Daniel Gafford goes up for a dunk during practice Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017.
FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas held its media day at Bud Walton Arena and opened up the first 45 minutes of practice to media. Here are some observations.
— This team is very long and very athletic. That was my main takeaway after watching the beginning part of practice, a lot of which was centered around transition drills. There were a lot of alley-oops and a lot of speed in the open court.
— Several guys changed their body over the offseason or once they got on campus this summer. Daniel Gafford weighs 235 pounds and has added a lot of strength since arriving at 217 in late May. Anton Beard has lost about 15 pounds to 185 and said he feels quicker than he has in a while. Gained weight when he sat out with his legal issues a few years ago, but feels like he’s finally back to where he wants to be. Mike Anderson referenced the competition for playing time as a motivator. C.J. Jones weighs about the same, 175, but is stronger than he was a year ago.
— Arlando Cook is still suspended and wasn’t out there. Anderson said they’re waiting for the legal process to be completed.
— Khalil Garland isn’t cleared to fully participate, but Anderson repeatedly said he was highly optimistic about him being cleared at some point. He was actually able to go through a lot in practice. Did some fast-break drills, three-man stuff and individual work. Dunked often and looked like he was still as athletic as he was in high school.
