Actually from what I've heard, the kid wanted to go to OSU, and his father refused to allow him to go. A lot of his speech was about staying close to home too

If you guys don't think parent have huge impacts on a guys decision you're delusional.

His dad has also been trying to pump his company every opportunity including today when wearing a hat

You can look at the crystal balls from before this week began and where it ended and see the shift seat from anywhere outside Cali

Meh. OSU got the benefit of the parent approval bump with Baron Browning this year. You win some. You lose some.

A lot harder than you think the parents have to sign the LOI even if the kid is 18.

Actually the rule is more foolish then that. A parent is required to sign the LOI to age 21 even if married and 21 & under still need parents signature

Has a parent ever just flat out refused to sign an LOI because they were adamantly against their child's decision ?

Yep, our Rb who just left for the NFL last year, Alex Collins had that happen. In fact I believe one of the parents actually took the Letter so he couldn't sign to begin with.

Then there was Malik McDowell.

quote:

You may recall the drama surrounding Southfield (Mich.) High five-star defensive end Malik McDowell's National Signing Day saga last month. Well, seven weeks later -- and only a few days before the deadline to submit National Letters of Intent -- his commitment to Michigan State remains unresolved.

According to multiple reports, McDowell signed a letter on Feb. 5 stating his intention to play for the Spartans under scholarship. His father Greg also appeared to sign the document, but the letter was never sent to East Lansing, because it requires a signature from the custodial parent -- his mother Joya Crowe.

Josh Harvey-Clemons' grandfather (who was his guardian) disappeared on NSD after JHC committed to Georgia. It took a couple days to convince him to sign.
