Tennessee's rising sophomore receiver DeAnthony Arnett has asked for a release from the University of Tennessee football program, according to VolQuest.com. Arnett, a 2011 U.S. Army All American out of Saginaw, Michigan, caught twenty-four passes for 242 yards as a true freshman in 2011.

Arnett was expected to start next season for Tennessee in the slot, which employs a three wide receiver base offense.

Arnett's father is ill and the illness has worsened over the last few weeks, according to the report. Arnett is expected to be granted his release and will likely transfer closer to his Saginaw, Michigan home. Arnett chose the Vols over Michigan, Michigan State, and Southern Cal out of high school.

Tennessee returns the SEC's leading receiver, junior Da'Rick Rogers. The Vols also return talented rising junior Justin Hunter, who was a top five receiver nationally in yardage prior to tearing multiple knee ligaments in a September tilt with Florida. The two are expected to start at the Z and X positions, respectively.

In addition to Hunter and Rogers, the Vols have four other receivers returning on scholarship and currently have four receivers committed for the 2012 recruiting class.

Damn. Wish it had worked out, kid is a baller. Totally understand though, good luck to he and his family. Tough thing to go through.

Nah, this is just a case of a kid from hundreds of miles away having a rough family situation. He will be a hell of a player, likely for Michigan or MSU. Sucks, but you can't get mad about this.

Yep. Feel worse for him than for Tennessee, though.

What exactly does Kiffin have to do with a man getting cancer? Would this not have happened had he picked Michigan?

He should have chosen Michigan State in the first place. They're a better program right now with the better HC. They also have a history of producing very good WRs. Stay at home, be a legend, and play for a good football team.

Most of the WRs produced by MSU was due to Charlie Baggett, who just left UT as WR coach. Main reason the kid was here to start with.

NCAA has some sort of hardship waiver that would allow him to play immediately at a BCS school right?

Michigan State would be a good place for him.

He was going to commit to MSU at that Notre Dame game (fake FG in overtime), but D'Antonio had a heart attack right in front of him during their meeting postgame.

Said it freaked him out and gave him a bad vibe.

Well this sucks. The kid is a good WR with some talent. I wish him luck wherever he goes, and I hope his father gets better too.
