I know the Heisman is an offensive player award but why is there for campaign anyway for Will Anderson?

I love Will, but when someone mentions the Heisman do you seriously think of Will Anderson? That’s why he’s doesn’t have a campaign.

At Alabama, yes, I do think of Will Anderson when I think of the Heisman. The guy's that good.

Alabama's top Heisman candidate Bryce Young is a pass-first QB, but his ability to move out of the pocket and make things happen with his feet is a new strength unlocked in recent weeks and put on full display during a 52-24 win over Tennessee on Oct. 23 before the Crimson Tide were on a bye this past Saturday. National media members commended Young's new-found strength in the aftermath after the former five-star rushed for a career-best total and finished with a sparkling QBR of 90.3...

The RB from Michigan State is my favorite at this point.

He’s not heisman worthy. First rounder, but not all first rounders are trophy worthy.

There are people acting like they're going to vote for that Georgia DL. Still, it's probably better not to split the vote.

I think you answered your own question. His sack and TFL numbers are impressive but they aren’t eye-popping like a Terrell Suggs or DT.

That's such an unfair standard though, and illustrates why the Heisman committee and the people who vote on it aren't actually interested in giving the trophy to the most outstanding player. For QBs and RBs, they just need to have the best season that year to win it. For everyone else they need to have one of the best seasons of all time just to be a finalist.

He played hurt for a few games or his numbers would probably be higher.
Still wearing the knee brace.

If he can stay healthy and elevate his play even slightly next year, he'll probably get some buzz and maybe get invited to NYC. No shot at winning though.
The reality is, to even get in the conversation as a defensive player, you have to have crazy name recognition. Will Anderson will be a lot lot closer to that coming into next season, after hopefully winning a bunch of DPOY awards, being a unanimous first team all american, and coming in as a top 3 projected draft pick. I think at that point a 4th place finish like Chase Young a few years ago is possible.

It’s every POY type award in this sport. Besides the Heisman, you also have awards like the Walter Camp, AP POY, Maxwell, etc. Defense players still don’t often stand a chance of winning those awards.
You see this in the NFL too. In 2014, most people thought DL JJ Watt was the best player in the NFL. Yet Aaron Rodgers was an almost unanimous selection for MVP because he’s a QB and more “valuable”.
The sport is just designed that a QB (followed by a RB) can visibly have a massive impact. They rack up the yards and score the TDs. Sacks are cool but they rarely result in direct points. It’s not fair to the defensive players (OL get even less respect) which is why these “Player of the Year” awards at all levels of football are incredibly overrated. They’re automatically skewed to offensive players but mainly QBs.
