There is a bad double standard with the current playoff system.
Teams shouldn’t get rewarded for winning their conference championship games (JMU & Tulane) if they can’t get punished for losing them (Alabama).

Not a fair comparison. JMU and Tulane were not in the playoff field until they auto-qualified.
Bama was in the field as an at-large team going into the games yesterday.

Playing in those games should be a privilege, not a burden. 100% disagree with you OP.

The problem is that the system allows an auto-bid to go to the conference champions. If the wins matter, then the losses should too. It obviously mattered for BYU and Virginia, so it should matter for Alabama as well.
The auto bid system is stupid because there isn’t parity in the conferences. JMU is in no way one of the 12 best teams in the nation.

BYU dropped 1 spot, Ohio State dropped 1 spot, Virginia dropped 2 spots, North Texas dropped 1 spot.
Bama didn't drop, so I hear the complaint. But it's clear the committee did not want to penalize the champ game losers very much across the board.
