Will we ever see a college team rest starters the last game of the season?

Thinking along the lines of an 11-0 P4 team throwing the last game to stay healthy.
I mean, it happens in the NFL all the time

I’m saving this for when A&M loses in Austin.

I would say no. Bama for instance cant afford to lose to AU in the last game. It would not sit well with the Alum and the big time money people who want the red headed step child stepped on in a big way.

We will at some point. It will never be Bama though and not Georgia as long as Kirby is there.

Sounds like something Oregon would do. SEC bluebloods, nope.

I don't think anyone will rest all their starters for a full game but it looks like Ohio State is already strategically resting guys for these remaining regular season games. Tate and few other guys didnt play yesterday and I'm guessing some other guys will get the next game off.

If Bama wind out and makes the sec cg I hope they do. I’d rather have the three weeks off in front end and have a game under the belt in playoffs having to go to an OSU or somewhere than winning the seccg getting a bye then having to play a B1G first game in playoffs. Most of the teams with first round bye were knocked out first game of playoffs last year.

Not as long as we have a group of people determining who is in or not. It isn't like the NFL with win-liss being king and no human intervention. If a team decided to rest their startes for the Conference Championship I bet the committee would decide to start considering such losses and drop them to the point they open on the road assuming they don't find a way to drop them from he top 12 entirely. The NCAA playoffs have too much subjectivity in the rankings for this. In the NFL that isn't the case.

And not a word from the sports media. But let A&M pull this in the SECCG and the wailing from the Herbstreits of the world about "Muh Integrity" would be deafening.
This is the other reason it won't happen in the sense of people sitting out games they can afford to lose. In the NFL the Chris Berman's (actually like him) can cry all they want. It changes nothing because people aren't involved...and they do cry about it when it impacts other teams (Say the Falcons need the Saints to lose, but the Saints are playing someone that rests their starters). Doesn't matter.
The Committee members are humans and they are going to be influenced by this.

Good points, I agree with it really. I do think we'll see it happen a little more from some teams as these new systems progress. There's logic in it and this is a professional league with a playoff now.

Most major contenders have a big rivalry as their last game of the regular season, so no, no one's going to be resting any starters for those games.

Fine line between rest and rust.
But last year they also had the conf champ get a bye rule. So that skewed things a tad.
