The SEC needs to move to the ACC model in the off-season in my opinion. It’s vital to maintain fan engagement. Spectators are weary, especially in this era of collegiate sports. This past weekend was ridiculous, it would have been nice to see in-depth review of these calls and hear the conversation of the officials.

They should, they never will.

People are going to watch regardless.

Are you trying to put Matt Austin out of a job?

It will look the same. They know how to do it. The boss says what he sees and the underlings agree, boom, fake transparency....

yeah I don’t think it would change a thing. That said it’s entertaining and the SEC should do it

He picks incorrectly on what the call will be nearly every time

He picks what he wants the call to be.

He rarely even picks anything without being wishy-washy about it.

"Let's go to Matt Austin, Matt what do you see here?"

"Wow, that's really close. Tough call. It looks like he might have been out of bounds, but I don't know if it's enough to overturn. Tough call for the replay booth. I could see this going either way."

"Thanks, Matt"

I would welcome being able to hear SEC review chat to know what the thinking is particularly if it involves a call that could completely alter the course of the game.

On a side note, I am no fan of Matt Austin.

All it took was one comment from him and the entire narrative concerning a single play was set in stone.

I agree, I also like the idea that a call that is in review should not be affected by what the call was on the field. Just make the review and make the call on what you see, regardless of what was called on the field.

Hundo. Agreed. Their reviewing process is best by a lot.

yes please!

I'd like to see all conferences go to how ACC shows the conversation around a review; at the very least it provides some entertainment when reviews are drug out for so long instead of just sitting and waiting for the ruling

Jeff Heaser's crew tends to be the problem.
2 games in question... OU/Auburn, Ark/MSU
Clearly they come in knowing who is "supposed" to win. Take that however you want.

Agreed, it's dumb as hell that the replay booth - with the advantage of multiple angles of replay - can't just say "the on-field call was wrong."

If they did that we would have to hear

"I don't care what it looks like we have to call it for Bama or UGA!"

Upon further review our on field officiating crew is wrong, again.

Yeah, that isn’t going to happen.

I can't imagine the shite show that would occur if the audio between the booth and field were put on record. At least for review by the coaches and athletic departments. Should be nothing to hide if you are doing your job right.

I have a feeling that might just scare the bejeezus out of some crews to shape the hell up and be on the level.

It might be impossible with the current tech but I'd love sort of an isolation booth situation where a group of maybe 3 get sent an immediate replay without any idea how it was called on the field. No idea what the score is or time in the game. Let them call it as they see it in slow mo HD without any other info.

SEC refs are still taking notes from watching ACC's broadcast.

They'll be up to speed in a few years after they get the flash cards made on how to speak intelligently about football decisions.

Fans need to learn the rules better and stop pretending like calls that are 50/50 are somehow the worst calls ever.

Then maybe if we can focus on the truly bad calls, change will happen.

As it is now though, it would be impossible to please fans and it's not the SEC's fault.
