Well, those top five are not determined until long after the schedules are set. That is why we have playoffs.

the playoffs don't help if that many teams don't play each other. If that's going to be the case we need a 32 team playoff and the regular season is just a tune up. You could take the top 5-7 teams this year and just roll dice to see who is in the SEC championship because that is about what is going to happen

do you really think that the number 32 team in the country would have any business in a playoff? any statistically-significant chance of winning the whole thing?

Honestly, 12 is probably too many. Eight would be more than adequate. no matter what number you choose, some team (the first or second one out) is going to complain that they didn’t get in.

The fact that they do not play one another is why you have playoffs which include four or eight or perhaps even 16 teams.

As the poster above indicated, you obviously did not give this very much thought

If our friends at Texas hadn’t lost 2 games while barely squeaking out big wins against Kentucky and State…. Well, we would have had a top 5 match up.

If you had pods/divisions/something, there would be a greater chance of those 10 matchups occurring.

Hince why this 1 big group idea needed all the tie-breakers created.

I didn't give this much thought. The SEC isn't going to get 5 teams in the playoff because there are only 12 teams . You literally can't count but I didn't give this much thought. How effing stupid are you.
