Other than that disastrous third quarter Saturday, LSU hasn’t really underperformed.

He was already on thin ice. TAMU just cracked it all the way.

He got fired for telling the AD to go frick himself. You can't big dick people when you aren't a winner

My gut feeling is that LSU saw this year as their shot with Kelly. They had a senior QB returning along with lots of talent on both sides of the ball. With Kelly being 64 there might not be another year in his tenure that set up to win like this year did, so they cashed in their chips with donors and got a lot of NIL money to fill in any gaps and make sure they put their best foot forward. And of course we all saw the result. As soon as it was clear they weren't going to contend this year even after everything they had invested, Kelly was gone.
For the record I think the same thing happened with Franklin at PSU, too.

Yup. No improvement in performance after all the NIL money invested.
And reportedly he’s taking vacation during the season and during critical recruiting times.

Oh, he underperformed a lot more than one quarter. Retaining a bottom-feeder OC and having a horrible offensive line the year after you already had trouble running the ball is a long-term problem, not a one quarter problem.
Additionally, everyone is now throwing him under the bus for his personality.
As Gerry Dinardo once said about Cecil Collins, "Is it true that most of the iceberg is below the water?"

He got EVERYTHING he asked for and that was the product.

It’s almost like you make an effort to make your next post even more ignorant than your previous one.

As an LSU fan I think you nailed it.
Kelly had a veteran QB many projected as a top 10 pick, a 20 million dollar roster funded by boosters he sold on needing to step up, depth from some really good recruiting classes funded by said boosters, and elite coaches that LSU went out and got for him.
In exchange we got losses to Vandy, Ole Miss, and the disaster Saturday night against A&M. And when LSU people had the audacity to question glaring holes early in the season we got called spoiled.

Except he's 53 and made the CFP last year

Honestly I think Kelly might have made it to the end of the year if it weren't for those visuals at the end of the game. Seeing A&M not only obliterate LSU on the field but then afterward with only a handful of LSU fans even left in the building to hold up some type of Fire Kelly sign, LSU recruits hanging out in the Aggie section, and what looked like Midnight Yell Practice going on with ABC gushing all over A&M was just something he was never going to recover from.
Anyone that was a decision maker with LSU had to know that the rest of the season was only going to get worse with fans in full on rebellion, players checking out, and recruits leaving in droves. It's not like Kelly was a guy who made friends either, he made it very easy to be the guy that everyone hated and no one was going to stand up for.
So no matter what it cost it was inevitable so at least by pulling the trigger now they can officially flush the season and shift the narrative to whatever is coming next. Trying to save a few bucks to hang on to Kelly a little longer when he was a dead man walking just didn't make sense, the next thing to go would have been season ticket holders.
BTW, really the 2nd quarter was the only quarter that LSU looked like they had hope and that was only because of 5 A&M mistakes (2 pics, blocked punt, snap into nowhere, and a boneheaded unsportsmanlike penalty that kept a drive alive). LSU actually played a clean game with no TOs and very few penalties, none of which were significant. A&M could have easily hung 60 plus in that game.

The disastrous 3rd quarter was the result of 3 years of failing to build the program to LSU’s expectations.

Exactly. Except for the third quarter of the A&M have….Bk played three top ten teams within a single touchdown. Totally exposed the stupidity of Scott Woodward and the LSU fanbase.
