When I think of LSU, as much as I want to beat them, I don’t think beta, soy boy, liberal, weak energy like BK exudes. I think hard nose, blue collar, alpha. The pairing never made any sense to me.
What was the thinking behind that hire? Because he won a few games at ND with their soft arse schedule every year?

All the non-LSU fans love Coach O because they know he would've never been successful again at LSU. No matter how bad CBK might be, it would've been way worse for us to stick with O. It's the same logic as to why all the people who hate Florida loved Billy Napier. You only hate coaches who you see as a threat, and those guys weren't gonna be a threat to anyone.

LSU needs an oddball, wacky personality to lead their team to match the voodoo cajun energy you guys have down there. A boring, bland northeastern personality doesnt fit in.

Oh please. CBK made Notre Dame into what they are today. He had them playing for nattys with far inferior talent

Y'all did ND a favor. The fanbase up there had already soured on him and wanted to move on (their nickname for him was "the shanty mick"), but he won just enough that buying him out didn't seem justifiable at the time. They complained about not having a running game and a general lack of physicality, which should sound pretty familiar. Then along came LSU and delivered them from their problem. They were shocked and embarrassed that their coach was hired away by another school - ND's arrogance makes Bama look levelheaded by comparison - but they were not sorry to see Kelly leave.

I believe the thought process was to fix the program on a business/operations basis.
Saban built LSU's program and Miles maintained it. My understanding is that Orgeron wrecked all that. LSU didn't just need new management, they needed almost complete restructuring.
In that light, Kelly might have been the best option out there, by a good margin. He's done that at Cincy and Notre Dame and it's worked, and both are still good. He may not win as much as we want, but I think he's going to leave the organization in good shape for the next guy.
I'm not talking about schemes. I mean football operations. It's big business and you need structure. Notre Dame is on the same tier as LSU, he's proven to have built that.
I think the only way you get him was the big contract, but for longterm investment I think it was necessary after the O debacle

Absolutely. He's a weirdo with a fake accent and he's also Massachusetts liberal. He never was someone you'd hire if the goal was a Natty. At Cincinnati and Notre Dame he would beat the teams he was supposed to, but he would lose the majority of his games against teams with more/equal talent, and quite often by double digits. I still think he's a quality coach and CEO, but he's not the hire you make if the goal is a Natty. He's the hire you make if your program is a mess and you want an actual adult in charge who will bring stability and knows how to run a program. He won't get you a Natty, but he'll give you 9 wins a year and make you a top 15-20 program.

Notre Dame was the butt of all jokes. Every year.

This is why I can't blame LSU fans at the time of the hire. What are you supposed to do, just lead a campaign to fire the guy before he's coached a game or had a chance to get his players?
But has LSU reached a turning point where he really does need to be fired and then they don't do it for a few more years?
Seems like to me Les Miles should have been let go after the 2014 season but they kept him for 2 more. Would hate to see them make the same mistake again.
